I fasted for two days prior to chemo and I was spared most of the side effects. At the Dx in 01/2015 I found Dr. Valter Longo research and decided to try it and in my case despite 15 Taxotere sessions - the only really bad thing was losing hair. Lotta research being done and I still fast daily from 9pm to 1pm the next day. I do a tomato curry veggie broth in the fast.

My best to you

I think Dr Longo has produced and is working on producing a fasting mimicking diet product for chemo.. they have one just for a regular 5 day fast called Prolon - go to prolonfmd.com - To learn more about their chemo fasting product go to l-nutra.com/chemolieve/ -

From what I have read there are a lot of benefits to fasting prior to chemo. If you can tolerate it, then give it a try.

Lots of prayers and hugs,

Fast & live. Title of book that explained that it’s benificial to fast 2 x 500 calorie day per week while in chemo or Rt. I did this thru Rt. Now 2yrs and no visible signs. Am I cured ? Hell no no cure for #4 metastatic pc. But no signs is much better than the beast devouring me at the moment. So once you get better news. Enjoy the moment for we all know the difficult and tenacious nature of our nemesis pc. Hang tuff and get through this chapter to the next. I’m pulling for you ..Take care.

I've got to fasting before chemo. great posts from all. Thanks

Fasting while doing treatments is recommended by the book .You will lose weight and get spacey. I did. The theory is that you are weakening the bad cells to a point where the chemo can eliminate them. I got what I consider to be great results by total holistic living and fasting thru radiation only. I’m sure chemo is tougher than Rt. I think the first encounter with treatments is the best chance to knock it down and hopefully out of business. Good luck lincolnj8 ..Hang in there baby!

Fasting for 2-3 days produces a marked increase in immune system activity in most people. Since chemo tends to degrade the immune system, and loss of appetite is a frequent outcome, some mainstream clinics are advising their chemo patients to fast.

Good luck!

I concur.

My husband fasted for 36 hours before each chemo treatment. Drank an aloe herbal drink during fasting. Tolerated chemo well- loss oif hair and a little fatigue towards 6th treatment but better than we thought.

So valuable thanks

Don't. You need your strength and your body strong. Have a bad blood count and you are screwed,

Alright, like the saying goes, if its not broke don't fix it. You make sense. I do need my strength and my blood count has been getting better every month, in the twelves from being in the fives 6 months ago. And the psa is dropping to near zero. Glad to be alive. Christmas was rough. My doctor has brought me back from the brink. Thanks for the advice

That’s a great doctor. I feel my first guy did the right stuff also. . I praise all of my doctors, even though they’re not perfect, who the hell is, We owe. gratitude . I m going to go back to the Nurse Linda at the cath -lab that showed my wife And I the most compassion while we were at the most critical stage of tubes and stents and changing all of the above every 3 months . That lady is an angel. She got us thrust..There are fantastic people that indeed we need to accredit for their part in healing us.

You’re right.. depends on the individuals over all health and strength. I had a lot to lose But the main thing that I had to lose was cancer. I know that I can not regain the strength and stamina I had just 3yrs ago , even with all of our loses this planet still has some beauty to offer if we are open to it . When we become to weary to walk any longer then we all will submit to the inevitable .. Until then do our best and don’t forget to smell the roses . Anyone that says that they have APC figured out , I would say they’re dilutional. Take care G_D. Keep dancin!

I fasted through two chemo sessions so far with minimal side effects. I plan on continuing through. Oncology center dietitian/nutritionist supports it as long as you're able to regain healthy weight in between. I'm generally prone to loose weight rather than gain but was able to recover it so far after fasting.
