Has anyone done anything with fasting? Or had any success with fasting in conjunction with other treatments like chemo? I watched a documentary on fasting with a Biochemist named Valter Longo. He had some fascinating info on the effects fasting and cancer. Let me know your comments?

Fasting anyone???
I heard Professor Thomas Seyfried talk about glucose and glutomine are what feeds cancer , by cutting out sugars and glutomines, we can cut out most of the sugars but glutomine is in all foods even vegetables so when a person fast they not taking in glutomine to feed the cancer. I read about intermittent fasting , doing a fast couple times a week can be healthy in many ways, for cancer and cleaning out the body from toxins. I believe by fasting we can stop the cancer from fermenting and it can't survive. fermenting is what causes cancer to spread and live on. I would think by doing the doctors recommendations , like Chemo or radiation plus fasting can only make everything better to destroy the cancer, I had radiation and hormone therapy, plus doing intermittent fasting and other holistic therapies to help myself and my psa is point one, for the second time in a row. I am now in remission so I will keep the intermittent fasting going and all my other protocols going to keep my cancer from coming back.
God Bless

That’s great news. Yes, the glutamine feeds the cancer cells and good cells and when we fast there is limited supply. But it’s the function of the cells at the DNA level that’s fascinating. The good cells actually became more resilient while the cancer cells were weakened by the lack of fuel. The fermenting aspect I haven’t heard about. Maybe a different term. But I’ve also had good results from fasting. I tried it with the two chemo infusions I had. I’m still doing intermittent fasting and will do a couple of 48-72 hour fasts a month. Thanks for the reply.
Fasting is good! Thanks..
My doctor said eat no matter what. Don’t lose the body weight, your body needs the strength to fight the cancer.
Yes , it depends on your core strength. Not recommended for all .. If anemic or losing weight or others issues, see a dr. Over eating , especially the bad foods or under eating , both bad. The theory is that the bad cells will be weakened by the fasting and then more readily eliminated by any treatment.
Yes, I fasted 2out Of 5 days of radiation for 2 months. Lost weight , got spacey, but I’ve beeb clear for 2yrs now. Watch the video “ Fast to live”. I will do it again if faced with chemo. I fast once in awhile. Very beneficial in cleansing our system . Good luck & follow your own path. Infrared saunas are very good for us also.
I also found Dr. Longo's research and fasted 2 days before my chemos - 15 in 2015. I was spared most side effects, still worked 6 days per week. I still do Intermittent fasting from 9pm to 1pm the next day - I sip tomato/curry/veggie broth during the fast.

Hi, I'm due to start docteaxel in one day.. already reduced my intake of food. What / how much should I eat the day prior and the day of treatment? I'm a thin guy anyway, don't want to starve myself. I have bone broth for nutrition, too. Does the fasting help immediately after chemo..? ie since the medicine is working in your body for days after.
Hey, sorry I didn't get back sooner - just got back from NYC marathon trip. I ate a huge breakfast 2 days before and then only did a tomato/veggie broth with black coffee, diet green tea for the next 2 days. I would eat dinner the night of chemo. My best to you in the upcoming treatments.

I didn't fast at all. I did cut out milk products as suggested by my MO during chemotherapy.

During my second radiations of 30 an x-ray perforated my Colin and sent e-coli throughout my body. I was in sepsis and almost died. I had Rocephin injections and in bed for a week. I had to finish my radiation so I would leave the hospital, get zapped, drive back to hospital and get back in bed. I am glad I had not been fasting, because I needed all my strength. The radiation worked (and Lupron injections for 6 1/2 years) and now I am cancer free.
