I’d really hoped We would come out of today’s appointment with better news. Unfortunately after less than a year on Lupron and Zytiga, my dad’s psa is already rising. He went from .33 to .9 to today at 9.9. We have no idea what next steps are but are shaken deeply.

Not good- PSA rising
Hi Stump Girl, Stay Positive, Tell your Dad, and Remind YOURSELF, A Positive Attitude is EVERYTHING. You and HE must Attack and ignore that he has a disease, I know that sounds a bit crazy but what happens when you give up in a fight? And what happens sometime when confronted for a fight You walk away or Ignore the confrontation but are aware of the threat?? Exactly, everyones balance is different, some can sustain or endure more pain, discomfort, bad news, good news or whatever than others, and that IS the case with PC. Im not saying to do Nothing or ignore medical facts or guesses, but if you or dad give this too much energy it can easily overwhelm you and HE. A day at a time is all WE are going to get anyway, and Im sure he has other medical issues to combat as well, so breath deep, enjoy the Present, seek expert information weigh the tally and get on with living. Peace and Love.
Sarge how come you did not do 20 for the pension and medical benefits
HOOAH, well fact is my last deployment I was NCOIC oof battalion ammo pad at the range for 2nd Ar, desert storm for Bradley, Abrams, small arms etc, got in the blind spot on the ground of 2 of those behemoths during a driver brain fart and poof, I wake up at Ramstien in landstuhl with twisted broken back, that's the short story, and I got MED discharged with bennies and perks. This was the second med discharge the first one I got waived to re enlist in 84, I wanted to do 20 really but it wasn't in the stars I suppose. KEEP Pushin, DILLY DILLY TEAM
This is the nature of this beast. Your dad will probably many times need to change his treatment. The important thing is to have a positive attitude and enjoy life despite the cancer.
Hello Stumpgirl,
I am sorry that your Dad's PSA is rising. I concur with and would advise the same as SsgCulldelight and dlestercarlson...for you and your Dad...to stay positive and keep fighting...enjoy life and know that your Dad will likely have to change treatments many times in his fight.
I am in the same boat with your Dad. After a year on Zytiga and Lupron, my PSA started to rise.
Just info..
In April I had scans (MD Anderson) and from the rising of my PSA and results of my scans...my oncologist decided... no more Zytiga for me. My oncologist decided Radium 223 would be the best option for me at this point in the fight.
Please do not let the rise in PSA get you down and do stay positive and determined. We'll just continue the fight in a different way, but we will keep fighting.
Take Care,
Monty
First time my PSA went up I was so depressed but now that I've seen mine rise and fall many times I just take it with a grain of white lightning. You must not be discouraged and keep the faith. Enjoy every day with your Dad. Regards.....
Good Luck and Good Health.

It's a rollercoaster ride for sure. After casodex, docetaxel, Lupron, zytiga, prednisone, radiation beam, now I start a new clinical trial next Monday. Staying positive.
If you wouldn’t mind saying, what clinical trial are you starting next Mon. My husband had a radical prostatectomy, 40 treatments of radiation, has tried Casodex, Lupron, Xgeva, Zytiga, Xtandi, Prednisone which have all failed & is presently in his
second round of taxotere. I’m very much interested in Lu177-PSMA for him. There is a phase 2 clinical trial going on right now at UCLA, but the patient has to pay all the costs & it is very expensive. Hawkwoman76
I will be starting orally a drug called cediranib combined with olaparib. I will still be on prednisone while taking, along with a Lupron shot, now every six months instead of every three months. My Oncologist is the lead MO in charge of this clinical trial for castrated resistance PC. It has also been involved with ovarian, breast, and colorectal cancer treatment. I'm going in open minded from what I've been counseled with and from my own research.
Never lose hope. Praying for your dad.
Gooday TEAM, yeah my initial psa was a 9.4 9 years ago before surgery, and cells were out of the capsule by the time they cut me so, been on lupron, casodex nilanton, since and its been undetectable since, many side effects though, pain had been manageable I keep on pushing regardless, head up some good some bad, I Dream big n keep goin. There are many not as fortunate and I know how difficult the challenge is. So, DILLY DILLY TEAM
