In the previous discussion on Zyflamend it was revealed that New Chapter changed the formulation and a lot of reviews on Amazon state it is no longer effective. Solgar claims to have developed a liquid extract where just 1 softgel 40 mg is equal to 75 100 mg capsules of standardized curcumin extract. This could be useful because Dr. Myers stated most of his patients could not tolerate higher doses of curcumin + Metformin.
I never doubted that change would occur. I knew this to be an effective supplement prior to purchase by corporate America. There is along history of small, organic companies bought and product quality goes down. Cost is the major factor. Troubling but reality.
Kudos to you to help push forward on the difficult supplement info
This brings us back to the question of quality control and actual potency.
Dr Myers had vetted those companies and products he wanted his patients to take.
He told me to take 3 pills per day of Life Extension Super Curcumin, which shows the following label:
"BCM-95® Bio-Curcumin® turmeric 25:1 extract (root) [std. to 95% Total Curcuminoids Complex with Essential Oils of Turmeric Rhizome by HPLC (380 mg)]"
The Solgar product says:
"It's so advanced, just 40 mg of curcumin in one softgel delivers the equivalency of 75 (100 mg) capsules of standardized curcumin extract. Even more, in a recent clinical study, Solgar® Full Spectrum Curcumin was shown to be longer lasting so it stays in your system for a full 24 hours.† " and the label shows
"Supplement Facts
Serving Size: 1 Liquid Extract Softgel
Amount Per Serving % DV
Full Spectrum Curcumin Liquid Extract
Providing:
Total Curcuminoids 48 mg
Curcumin 40mg"
So how to compare which delivers more , per capsule, bioavailable curcumin to our bloodstream and how to compare the quality, not forgetting the price differential?
