Here we go again: New member, first post, no history of prostate cancer, bullshit sugar/cancer alternative facts.

Just because this myth has been repeated over and over doesn't make it factual.

Here's what Mayo clinic thinks, but what do they know.

There are many who believe this video's "message" about suger and cancer. I think the best way to "correct" this message is with intelligent replies. Please feel encouraged to respond.

in reply toDarryl

Darryl,

I think we should all follow science rather than someone's "beliefs".

"Sugar feeds cancer" is not "controversial", it is just untrue and there is a big difference between the two.

Eating lots of sugar does contibute to obesity and other problems, no one is arguing that. That is pointed out in the Mayo clinic article I referenced. The point is: sugar does not feed cancer.

I lost a friend recently who fell victim to believing nonsense like this and received no proven treatments for his cancer.

So sugar doesn't feed cancer but ingesting large amounts creates a huge spike in insulin which cancer cells feed on. This would not have occurred if the sugar was not consumed. Sounds like splitting hairs to me.

Hatfield was involved in bodybuilding and fake steroid alternatives...a real hack...that stuff about his diet and cancer was total bs to sell his book

in reply togusgold

Gus, thanks for pointing that out.

We need to expose the charlatans and their alternatives to treatment. Maybe we can save one of our brothers, too late for my friend.

We were never arguing about "the dangers of sugar overconsumption". The fact is: Sugar does not feed cancer, plain and simple.

Are you a doctor? If so then state facts, if not state opinions.

in reply tofrannebrant

No I'm not a doctor, and no it's not my opinion. I provided a link above to Mayo clinic. It's their opinion so if you don't like it, go argue with them. I think they know a bit more about cancer than CBN news.

It seems to me that gregg57 is right in that intake of sugar is not directly causing or intensifying cancer. As ITCandy pointed out, it is the secondary effect (sugar intake leading to obesity) that's the issue. I personally know people who have high intake of sugar and are extremely fit. But I'm inclined to believe that's a rarity, and sugar intake needs to be well moderated. I take less than 25g of sugar on a daily basis.

gregg57 - as much as I don't want to see this forum clogged by nonsense, I agree with Darryl that in this case it's leading to a healthy exchange on sugar intake. I'd like to hear other members' opine on the subject of sugar.

in reply tosnoraste

Fair enough.

I would like to point again that the OP has no other posts, shared no history of prostate cancer and appears to have an agenda. That is important in my opinion.

Well, I share the exasperation of Gregg, in that we all have more important things to write about than ignorant myths.

I think that Dr. Myers handle it well in the following vlog post, but I expect that 5% of the group will dismiss it, since everone in cyberspace agrees that sugar feeds cancer - Dr Otto Warbug won the Nobel Prize, etc, etc, so it must be true.

Don’t eat processed sugar. We all know that that’s good to do. This is a one of contention on this site. We do are best not to eat any processed food. Veryone seams to,follow thier own beliefs in diet. I’m not eating sugar, I feel better. Recommend that everyone does the same. But that ain’t happening. People do as they wish . As long as your doing it that all that matters. I dated an open heart nurse. She told me of a lady whose family brought her in lobster and butter in the hospital as her last meal, before open heart surgery .. you can lead a horse to water.....

A bone of contention

The CBN report says that M.D. Anderson, one of the world leading cancer centers, found that sugar promotes cancer. They showed videos of a fat mouse and a thin mouse.

To check that out I did a google search on ( m d anderson cancer and sugar ) and came up with this page: mdanderson.org/publications...

If I'm reading it right, on M D Anderson's website, they are saying that sugar does not cause cancer or, by itself, increase cancer risk. What increases risk is being overweight. Sugar can contribute to making you overweight, but you can also get overweight from eating too many calories from any source. They seem to be recommending natural foods and keeping down the total calories to prevent weight gain.

Unfortunately, telling people standard and well known information doesn't sell advertising airtime. Scaring people and showing them fat mice is much more effective for that. I think it's just the modern version of "yellow journalism".

I think the truth is that if that mouse got fat on pizza or chocolate or eating too much of anything, he'd be increasing his risk of cancer.

No human knows for sure any of this shit,if they did we would'nt be on this site. There is no ''argument'' because there is no conclusive fact.....eat and drink whatever makes you happy

Thanks for your post and cautionary message Grammy. Your input is appreciated. And thank you Gregg for clarifying the facts. Both my wife and I are cancer patients at the Mayo Clinic in Jax. I go by what they say. We don’t totally avoid sugar, but we do try to use it in moderation. I have a sweet tooth, and am on the cusp of Type 2 diabetes. On the plus side, it allowed my family doctor to prescribe Metformin for me, which has been found to be beneficial. Now, can anyone tell me where I can get a Pearsons Nut Goodie in Central Florida? 🍫
