Looking for smoothie ingredients to help in the fight...

Any recommendations for prostate fighting smoothie ingredients out there?

On advice from a friend, unrelated to prostate cancer and more for general health benefits, I started making smoothies for breakfast last summer. Basic ingredients are some combination of spinach, kale, banana, strawberries, red grapes, blueberries, soy milk and coconut water.

Now that I’ve found all of you PCA comrades here, I thought I’d poll the audience to see what recommendations you may have for ingredients, either foods, or supplements, etc. that could be added to help the cause – fighting PCA.

Look forward to your responses!

Yes

I do a little fish primarily wild caught Alaskan salmon and sardines. I live in the Midwest so it is hard to find fresh fish.

I eat Indian veg dishes.

Lightly roasted Veggies or steamed

Doused in tomatoes sauce and paste and sometimes I add some cayenne pepper to spice it up.

My wife is from India but she lived in Africa for most of her teen years because her parents were missionaries so we are focusing more on the veggie dishes cooked with all of the good spices, turmeric, garlic, ginger etc. We don't keep the spice to HOT but just enough to not overpower the the dish.

Let me know if found an excellent source of veg recipes where I don't have to spend a lot of time putting the dish together.

How does that taste?

Kind of like green tea and cocoa ;)

Actually, not bad, but, I expect that it'll be better w coffee.

Not bad, the pom juice gives it a little bit of sweetness.

I forgot to mention that I add about 5 - 10 red grapes to the shake.

My eye opener was the book written by the reputed oncologist Dr.Charles Myers titled "Beating Prostate Cancer : Hormone Therapy & Diet". Accordingly I do as follows :

- Diet : Mediterranean style - More vegetables and fish. Avoid red meat, dairy products and too many eggs. Eat plenty of fruits and nuts.

- Almost daily, broccoli and cauliflower in vegetable salad or soup.

- Lycopene : For breakfast, two small tomatoes are boiled, chopped, one teaspoon of black pepper is added with little salt and one tea spoon of olive oil. This is like a special tomato sauce. ( Lycopene which is a very effective anti cancer substance is released only when the tomatoes are cooked )

- One cup of green tea in the morning and one in the evening.

- One capsule of Omega3 fish oil ( 1000mg ) daily. You can take up to 4 capsules but a higher dose may cause gastric reflux.

- Vitamin D3 supplementation is very important, ideally to maintain a level between 70 - 80 . Normal level is between 35 - 100. Ideal level is important during all cancer treatments. I maintain my ideal level by taking daily 4000iu of D3. ( Before supplementation your D3 level and the serum ionized Calcium levels should be checked. )

- There are few more items recommended but I am not taking them. Whatever I take, I prefer to take them from natural sources. The natural source for Vit.D3 is sunlight but I am compelled to take capsules for known reasons.

The advantage of taking proper food, supplements and vitamins is due to the presence of anti oxidants and various other anti-cancer chemicals in them which can support the main and primary PCa treatment protocols. IMO they cannot replace the standard PCa treatments.

Smoothie: Kale, spinach, lettuce, banana, celery, apple, pear, pineapple, Chlorella/ Spirulina/Barley Green. The last 3 ingriendients best used in powder. I like NOW brand. You can use all three or either of the 3.

I also make a tea: Turmeric, ginger, organic lemons, green tea and dash of cayenne pepper.

Thanks KingRasP, Tea sounds great! Also, what's the benefit of celery? Thx

I would stay away form soy milk. Most soy is genetically modified, and has Carrageenan, which studies show is highly carcinogenic. Almond is good alternative.

I agree with the soy milk I've just gotten rid of my last Box and it was all organic

My oncologist told me that I can drink all the coffee that I want.

Most people never do this one and it may be one of the most effective....1 glass fresh brewed coffee...mix in 1 tablespoon of 100% pure cocoa powder
