Treatment for bone pain?

A friend of mine is experiencing severe bone pain from advanced prostate cancer. His MO is prescribing morphine ( tablets). He says it does help. But I was wondering if there are other medications that can be used for the pain?

He is currently on Lupron + aberaterone. He is in his seventh year fighting PCa. His first treatment was with Docetaxel, I believe. There was no radiation or surgery.

It was bone pain that led to my diagnosis. Like your friend, I had Docetaxel and now on ADT with morphine for the background pain. You don't say how much morphine is being taken, so the first step has to be to talk to the doctor about doses etc. I found that 20mgx2 per day was not enough but when increased to 30x2 there was a real improvement. I get pain on waking and when getting into bed, but these soon go, There are occasional breakthroughs and I then take paracetamol or ibuprofen if it is a headache (I'm in UK) which works - a bit surprising really, but it does. Hope it works out for him.

Is palliative radiotherapy to the pain points an option? I have had a few bone pain areas radiated that has dealt with their pain so I don't need to continue taking pain killers.

I was having pretty severe pain in hips and lower spine. Palliative care prescribed gabapentin 300mg 3x/day. Also Dilaudid. Was sceptical that gaba would work, but after 5 days on gaba I'm no longer needing the Dilaudid.

Palliative card Nurse Practitioner prescribed 100mg Gabapentin for my husband to take each night before bed and 7-325 hydrocodone during the day as needed. He's off all other treatment due to worsening side effects and PSA climbing.....last month over 40....with CHF.

He should ask about getting the painful mets treated with radiotherrapy (SBRT)

There are many posts here on H.U. recommending "flavored" Gummies for pain. Do a view of prior HU history and you can view/copy them............Good Hunting for you and your friend.
