Can depression be a side effect of Zytiga? I seem to be struggling more since starting it.

For me, I get moody from ADT and Zytiga (not diagnosed depression). I use cymbalta to help even things out.

I think both Lupron and Zytiga can cause depression. I first was on Lupron and started to get in a funk. Then they added Zytiga and it is a lot worse. More than depression I find that I get "confused" quite easily and get stressed out at the smallest things. Right now i just tell myself it is the drugs and force myself to keep going. Sorry for not having a better answer or offer a solution.

Been on Lupron for 3 years, zytiga for one. No sign of depression yet. Support of a wonderful husband and many activities (just back from a week in Cuba ). Guess I don't have time for depression.

My husband is on Lupron + Xtandi, but he was struggling with mood swings and anger -- which are more common depression symptoms for men. There are some other posts on here about taking anti-depressants.

My husband decided to try an antidepressant, very low dose, and it has made a huge difference for him, maybe even more for me, who bore the brunt of these swings and random rants. I'd suggest that you try it. It just evened him out. He's not a zombie by any means but just has a more limited range of emotions. This is healthier overall I think, but much better for us trying to work through all of this together too. He actually went through 2 antidepressants before he found one that worked well for him, so remember that too. First one was from the medical oncologist, but then he started to see a psychiatrist for prescriptions. He is not going to regular therapy just checking in with the medications.

which antidepressant worked for him? I've been using exercise, matcha green tea powder and comedy TV shows to stay upbeat. I'm worried that adding Zytiga will make the depression worse and I might decide to add the antidepressant.

Low dose lexapro works for him - can't recall the strength. Anti-depressants work differently for different people, so if the first one doesn't work for you (side effects, feel weird, whatever) then try another. Exercise and comedy tv are great options too! Best of luck with this, and don't hesitate to work closely with your doctor (onco or better a psychiatrist) to get the right balance of all your meds.

Hugs!
