I asked my Onc about BIRM today, and he had never heard of it, which didn't surprise me. I explained what it was, and that the NIH was given a mil to study it. He told me that the NIH was only a group who studies coo-coo medicine, to prove it doesn't work. Yeah, he was all happy to shit on them.

It's all about the money Joe. Sure, they are working on a drug to turn stage 4 prostate cancer into a chronic condition. I can only imagine the billions, (trillions ?) the pill makers would make keeping us alive by feeding us a chemical cocktail. The cure grows on the planet and no one is looking.
I can see big pharmaceutical giving someone a million to prove something doesn't work that would hurt their bottom line. I hope researchers are working to find a cure for us. I would want my name associated with a cure not a failure.

The medical establishment can be fixed in its ways and isn't quick to embrace new things. You almost need to find an oncologist who is a Maverick to find someone who is open to trying new things and who doesn't get annoyed when you wave a research study at them or try to educate them on something.
Yes, I think this is what we can expect when we talk to our oncologists of all the other things we try. When my husband and I talked to our onc about DDR Prime essential oil, he said he had never heard of it, couldn't imagine how it could work but said we should keep doing it and see... I think we shouldn't get disheartened by those comments, they haven't studied alternatives to what is already out there...
Mel, this is the first I heard of DDR. I took a quick look, like seconds, and will return to check it out. But, you're right, they don't get paid to promote anything but Big Pharma stuff.
Using mod fruit pectin...birm...tumeric and shaga mushrooms and my PSA has stopped doubling. Am not on anything but Lupron currently (as I have been since my diagnosis). I have qualified for a trial (Xofigo/Keytruda), but have not been randomized yet so not sure if I'll be getting immuno drug. Will be based on bone biopsy next week. Fingers crossed.
