Some individuals respond extremely well to Lupron, even adding a decade or two with controlling the cancer and minimal side effects.

Some others, though, do have probems with side effects and it isn't as effective---only time will tell how you will respond.

I've read about metastases even disappearing with Lupron therapy, and I hope that you respond very well. Even so, there are other cancer treatments which can be very effective.

The very best of luck to you,

You dont say whatt dose. Of casodex. it can be titrated up 200 mg to be more effective in lowering psa to get more time on before the big guns saving the lup. for later. Been on lupron before cas mono and can do it again if psa goes above 6. Like I might need to since my psa has been bouncing around near that . Hope it bounces for yrs but you have to plan ahead. Wish you the best

Thanks for your feedback.

My Casodex was three 50mg per day. Did a couple of multi-month cycles with a holiday between.

Casodex 150 early on is the only drug ever to cause my liver functions numbers to go to three times upper limit of normal, though it did reduce psa, just saying be careful to monitor liver numbers with a higher dose, actually liver numbers should always be monitored, as you only have one liver. My liver numbers came down when I went off casodex 150 and never went high again through high dose ketoconazole, nilandron, zytiga or xtandi.

FYI- 200 mgs is the usual dose in Europe, but it is usually used without the other AD drugs. In the US it is standardly used at 50 mgs along with Lupron, etc.

Joel, How long have they been using 200mg Casodex, for I know they where using 150 mg in 1996 in Europe as standard of care with this protocol? My concern is my liver, adverse effects where rare at 150 mg. The only clinical trials I saw where of six month duration with 200 mg.

Rich,

My error, I meant 150 mg not 200 mg. Bad mistake, my bad.

My story is very similar to yours. 10+ years of undetectable PSA, baseline PSA was 11.5, same therapy (see my profile) I have just added Casodex to Lupron and my PSA went down from 1.60 to 0.95 in the first month. No new side effects. Hot flashes controlled with estrogen patch.

I was on Lupron only for two years and PSA dropped to 2.2 from 14.9. I moved to a different state and new MD added 50 mg of generic Casdex to the 3 monthly Lupron injections. After one year PSA dropped to 0.1. I asked the new MD to order me a Dexa scan and I thoght he did but he odered other scans instead. And I was haveing bad side effects from the Lupron but he would not change my treatment so I changed doctors again 3 months ago and am now seeing an MD oncologist who specialiges in prostrate cancer. The new MD added 100 more MG of Casodex to 150 mg daily. Changed from generic Lupron to Firmagon and added generic Avodart. Last PSA Sept 9, 2016 was <0.09. After being on Lupron for 3 years I developed Ostoporois. So I would recommened getting a Dexa scan to check for Ostoporois as it is one of the many side effects. I have shrunk over one inch in height and my penis shrank over 1 and 1/2 inchs after 3 years on Lupron. Another side effect of the Lupron. Best of luck with the Lupron and I hope the various side effects do not affect you. There are treatments for the side various side effects so talk with your MD if you are having any that are affecting your quality of life.

Thanks Daddy,, for your kind words.

I don't understand your question " What is the male plan"

Sorry to hear about your relapse, which seems all too common. I am just starting on my journey having been diagnosed just a few months ago. I twisted my urologist's arm to start me on 50mg casodex several weeks ahead of a 6 mo eligard shot. I am 66 and doing OK so far.
