Incontinence

My husband Jon has been in the hospital now for 10 days with the last two in rehab.  He has had severe diaherra and now has incontinence when he goes to sleep.  Has anyone else experienced this?  He is still in the dark place and this isn't helping him at all.  Will this be temporary?  Is there any encouragement for this?

Jon certainly is experiencing a rough time.  What is that like for you?  Scary, disheartening?   The diaherra should prove to be temporary, as I can't imagine that the hospital will discharge him while he is experiencing that.  They wouldn't want to risk him dehydrating at home.  Sounds like Jon is having a sane and respectful reaction to a crappy time. I think the time for you to "really" worry is if he starts saying things like, "I don't want you to visit." For now, your support and love and good, solid medical advocacy are the best things you can do to help him and yourself, in my humble opinion.  And, to respect his need to occasionally be alone and introspective.  He had a life before you....teenager, young adult, and those memories and relationships may be weighing on him a bit, as he tries to reconcile his life.

Thank you Darryl for your advice and words of wisdom.  Jon is very scared about dying and he is crying everyday which also makes me extremely sad.
