High new to group diagnosed August 2014 PSA 180 now down to 8. Been on Hormone injections generally feel fine just the side effects hot flushes, weight gain etc. Just hope the present treatment holds up. No gleason score as original cancer not found it has been assumed as high 8- 10 all a bit scary really

Roger,

I don't understand what you meant when you said the cancer has not found.  Clearly a PSA of 180 is very significant.  Did you have a biopsy, scans?

Yep sorry didn't describe it well. Via a pain in my hip I had a x-ray then a bone scan and P.S.A test which revealed mets on my hip with one on my back so' the writing was on the wall' by then and they didn't consider a Biopsy worthwhile considering the discomfort. I did however have a Turps because my Bladder was backing up a bit and they did test the bits they cut out but nothing also the digital inspection or the camera  did not show any indication. So my gleason score is just an assumption which I think is unusual

Understood.  Are you also taking bicaludamide (Casodex) as a part of the hormone therapy?

That's correct do you read anything into that?

It is better to see a lower PSA than 8.0.  I was looking for a way to get a better hold on the cancer.  My next question is if you are actually castrate?  Sometimes the ADT drugs don't drop the testosterone level low enough (20 ng/dL).  Have you had a recent testosterone test to confirm that you are actually castrate ) <20 ng.dl )?

I don't know what my testosterone level is so you have bought up a good point. I will ask my oncologist on my next appointment. How is it measured blood test? In which case they might have already measured it

Yes, it is a simple blood test.  Anyone on Hormone therapy should know their testosterone level.
