didn't know what yo title this, so silly title it is.
I started off with concerta, moved to strattera. No go on either of those. Several months ago I started trying adderall IR (teva) and it helped a bit. Made me anxious at times but calm and focused at others. Now a new doc wants me to try a low dose of vyvanse, starting at 10mg. (also on 15 mg fluoxitine) I'm reading the things people write on drugs.com. It seems a little too good to be true? I see a few negative experiences also. Basically I.m nervous to start a new medicine. I have to jump through a few hoops with insurance, and it being the holiday season I'm sure that'll hang things up also.
Think I have the starting basics down... Take it a few hours before I need the focus. Eat something with protein. Stay hydrated. Take notes. The first weekish may be a bit hyped up. Might have trouble sleeping at first. Am I forgetting anything?
Wish me luck! I'm not 100% sure it's going to go through and I'm going to try it, but let's see what happens.

I actually just started on Vyvanse, tho a much higher dose (60mg, but that's because I'm moving over from 30mg XR Adderall, so I'm actually lower than recommended which is 70mg equivalent). So far, I'm definitely feeling the cognitive effects more than Adderall, and definitely feeling the appetite suppression, but there are ways around that (I find Ensure Complete shakes to be solid).
I was on fluoxetine the last time I was on Vyvanse as well, and the main thing I noticed was that occasionally I'd get what I called "visceral anxiety" (basically just the butterflies in my stomach feeling but without necessarily feeling anxious in my mind), though other than that I didn't feel too much out of order.
Elvanse (UK) is good, they're amphetamine based so will interrupt sleep, can't eat vitamin C or any other acid based foods with them. They won't work otherwise. You can take the capsule apart and put the powder in yogurt or milk, and it makes the drug last longer.
The thing with such a small amount of 10mg, is that it'll last about 3 hours ultimately, so you'll need to increase, and this is where the danger lies because, it runs out quick, you're back to your normal self, and that runs the risk of taking more.
DO NOT be afraid to tell your doctor you've taken more if you do. Or, word it like you 'feel like you need to take more'. again, only if you do.
I started them on 30mg, increased to 40, then 50, then 70mg, now need 2-3 more other amphetamine based tablets in the afternoon.
Done this for 2 years, they've been a life changer. however, i'm now looking to change completely because they work in some areas, but magnify other areas. I've experienced things i've never thought about. Which is the dug essentially, but because they stimulate, they thus show you things you werent aware of. That's quite annoying, and needs controlling, but, they've unlocked the issues at least.
Good luck, you'll do well with them, if you're good with them
I started Vyvanse this past Friday and my last doses of Adderall XR were the day before. I was on 25mg XR, 5mg IR, and another 25mg XR for my Adderall dosing throughout the day, now I'm on 30mg Vyvanse and 5mg IR Adderall as a "micro dose". So far I don't like it. I feel very detached from things and am VERY surprised I am able to be this coherent in a comment
I haven't been too anxious (I have anxiety attacks unrelated to ADHD but ADHD will exacerbate and plays off of my anxiety)...but I have no sense of urgency. I need some anxiety. I don't know how much of it is my brain getting used to not having as much Adderall and then once or normalizes a bit the Vyvanse will "have a shot" to work its supposed magic, but I'm nervous
I can't afford to have many more days feeling like this. I'm also traveling abroad next month to the Netherlands from the U.S. and need to submit a medication certificate or something and I'm nervous because if I have a med change after that's submitted idk what's going to happen. But, I'm trying to put my health first with my decisions and logistics second. Things end up working out one way or another and it's MUCH easier to do anything if my stimulants are working (at least more than they are now). And med changes aren't ever convenient anyway, let's be real
The "your mileage may vary" aspect of med changes is frustrating, I'm personally worried because I've been on Adderall for the majority of the last 15 years and I'm already figuring my brain is more mushy than before because of it, so who knows what my "baseline" is (I don't think there's merit in me trying to reset and donate stimulant "cleanse" - I know I need them, it's just a matter of which)
you need to remember to take it an hour or so before you want to use it. Because it’s an ir, it can work 3-5 hours depending on your body. It didn’t work for me and my kid, but it’s the only one that works for my partner. Yes, definitely take with food. That one is hard on the stomach. Now that we are in our 40s, we are a bit concerned how it will be on my partner’s heart. It also makes him poop 30-60 mins after, when it kicks in. Lol
