Does anyone have experience with antidepressants and adhd meds? Particularly SSRI's? Trying to find a solution because I have both adhd and depression, but I'm at that point where they seem to be canceling each other out and I'm not getting any type of dopamine. I feel like a zombie, and I am wondering if anyone has any similar experiences...

ADHD & Depression Meds
I was on 30mg instant adderall twice a day and Prozac 40mg for years without any issues and then the same thing happened to me. I switched to Wellbutrin 300mg from the Prozac, keeping the adderall for the ADHD as is, and I’ve been on that combination since around 2013…and that combination has worked consistently for me until this past year.
Now, the Wellbutrin still keeps the depression at bay successfully, but since hitting perimenopause on the ADHD side I’ve been having stronger impulsivity urges (procrastination and spending) that have been harder to overcome. Since I was already on a really high adderall dose, there’s no room there, but my gynecologist is doing some hormone testing to see what can be adjusted on that end. I’m hoping that gets me back out of the impulse issues.
I take stratera along with escitalopram, buspar, and one other I can’t think of atm. The stratera does well for me, which I think my issue was more anxiety than depression.
Tell this to your provider. To answer your question, yes, taking antidepressants and stimulants at the same time--widespread. Totally normal. Which doesn't mean it'll work for you.
Talk to your provider about what you're experiencing. We can't change your script. Your provider can! Heads up: it takes often--very often--multiple trial and error attempts to get the right combination of meds for our specific bodies and brains. It's not a one off.
