Has anyone done Ketamine for depression?
I did and it was very helpful. I'm 60 with a lifelong history of depression and ADHD. I just finished in December 23 and then had the feeling of being lighter and happier. I continue to see improvement and feel better with each passing month.
I'm in central New Jersey. I've been asking my psychiatrist to help me get into a program that does psilocybin or ketamine and he won't budge. I'm desperate for something new. I've been dealing with ADHD and depression since childhood. I have tried all stimulants and antidepressants that you can name and they always stop working after a year or so. I'm on trintellix right now and it just isn't enough. Any advice on how to sign up? How do I even begin?
I went online to BetterUActually my psychiatrist here in NY recommended it but it is too expensive locally so I went online.
The FDA only recently authorized more clinical trials for psilocybin therapy research. Last I knew, the treatment hasn't been cleared for regular use in therapy.
I've only heard a few people tell their experience with ketamine, but I have heard that it's typically administered with a mental health professional present, because it does cause the patient to go into an altered state. I'm amazed by the stories I've heard about how well it has treated PTSD in some people.
(I don't think that I have a need for treatment with one of these, but I've always wondered if the experience would be anything like the vivid, trippy dreams that I often had in my youth.)
Thanks for the information. Can you believe that it has helped war veterans? Amazing! I am so grateful for that.
Have you thought about doing any of these new therapies yourself?
Well, I've managed to get through the toughest times in my life, so far.
I had really bad anxiety a few years ago, due to one of the most difficult times in my career. I needed medication and therapy to get through that. (Along with that therapy, I got my ADHD diagnosis...so at least something good came from it.)
Then, the worst time in my life was when my marriage was coming to an end. (The actual divorce wasn't quite as bad as the heartbreak before it.)
If ketamine (or psilocybin, if it gets FDA approval) could help me get through as difficult a time as those were, then I would strongly consider it.
.....
I wouldn't just do it for the experience, though. It goes against my personal convictions.
(I'll drink a bit, every now and again. But I made a personal decision a long time ago that I wouldn't use drugs for any non-medical purpose. I've kept that promise to myself for 35 years, and counting.)
