Has anyone dealt with childhood traum... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
Has anyone dealt with childhood trauma thats crippling ?
No, but one of my parents had childhood trauma and it definitely affected me and my siblings. I hear EMDR is great for childhood trauma ... and then you can keep going with other approaches ...
Say more and i can respond more specifically.
Nah, not crippling, just an average amount of trauma. I do notice it's harder to work through the trauma bc I have really really low self esteem and hold onto negative ideas sometimes.
This is Shnookie. My grandmother was a Jewish Holocaust survivor who had pronounced survivor’s guilt. When she lit candles to welcome the Jewish Sabbath She woul wail and pray to her parents that she couldn’t save them. For years, I witnessed this kind of behavior.
Sorry for your grandma
Thank U. Considering that I am hypersensitive at times, I think that her trims impacted me as well. I witnessed this kind of behavior for at least 30 years
That is just awful anyway you look at it (I can't think of the better way to phrase it). The guilt your Grandmother had about her parents, but also all of the other horrible things she saw and had to endure-every day, 24/7. Some of these horrors had to invade her dreams, and cause other life long pain. And then you (and your parents) had to experience her pain over and over. I wish I could say something that would put this all in a better place. But there's nothing that I can think of.As humans, we're the most intelligent creatures on earth. But there are plenty who are just the cruelest creatures on earth. And why? For some, it's just because they can.
And yet the title of this Post reminds me that a lot of us on this website have been through our own version of hell (mine being the crazy dysfunction of childhood-my own family-my own blood. Which I believe is from multi-generations of ADHD. And even after all the time that has past, as well as years of Therapy-before and after my ADHD diagnosis-some of its still hidden in the back of my mind, and occasionally it comes back to pay me a 'visit'. And some of it did invade my dreams).
Our individual pain is our pain. It's all bad. But are there different levels of 'Hell on Earth'?
Peace to you Shnookie.
What a profound post. Yes each of us especially with mental health issues probably have gone thru hellacious Times. But we cannot let this pain consume our souls and every day lives. It’s good to have this web site in that we can express ourselves freely without judgment
I was born with low birth , autoimmune disease and had concussions small and very isolated when I was small .
I’m so sorry that U had this illness when U we’re young. Hope that U had therapy for the PTSD and that the autoimmune disease still isn’t negatively impacting your life. I’m here 4 U
Hugs 🤗 Shnookie
Yeah... in September of this year I had a very harsh reality come to light. Um but it's not something I want to post about but If you want to pm me on here I dont min d sharing with you about it
Absolutely. Going through therapy now for it. ❤
Hi Add2021,
understanding childhood trauma is a relatively new revelation in the medical and mental/ behavioral health field.
Its interesting bc the part of the brain that gets negatively impacted due to the trauma is the exact same region that doesnt function properly in first place in folks with ADHD. so the outward symptoms can look like and play out very similar.
but obviously, childhood trauma doesnt
“ cause” ADHD.
Treatment for those with ADHD and childhood trauma is complex bc like i said before- trauma n ADHD both effect same area of brain so symptoms of both are exacerbated by the other. the person has a much more difficult time processing the trauma bc our ADHD causes us to perceive the trauma differently n more deeply, feel more deeply, and express or repress more deeply. yikes, lol. But the good news is that people can heal from their trauma and also learn to manage their ADHD symptoms. Its just a more complex, personal, and longer journey.
All the inherent brain functions that neuro typical folks utilize to heal their trauma- are the brain functions us ADHD dont have intact at birth. double struggle!
Thank you for bringing this topic up on the group forum. I remember the pain you are experiencing and sending good vibes your way. ❤️
Thank you for responding and happy holidays
Thanks everyone
I do! My mom is a narcissistic psychopath, so I do have a lot of trauma to heal from. I am going to therapy, but I wish there were ways that I could heal faster. I do have PTSD, so it's a bit hard to fight it while still having to manage all my insecurities and fears.
Praying for the healing
We could say that I had some sort of trauma - not the common type, though. Sexual and psychological abuse - if I may say so - from my mother and some people around her - say "paying guests"... Could I say it's "crippling" - I guess so, not sure. What's crippling is the undecidedness, the confusion, the uncertainty... What is a "traumatic experience"? What is "feeling abused"?
