vyvanse first day side effects

healthunlockeduser42 profile image

Hey everyone, I am a late-teenage-years female and i started my first dosage of the vyvanse medication this morning at 40mg to start off with. I have noticed i felt really positive about the day and my tasks, and i din't really over think what i was doing or take 500 thousand years. I have noticed i feel anxious, and quite shaky, which has been constant throughout the day.

I am sure that i will feel increased benefits once i am actually doing school work and not just lying around the house all day on these holidays, but i just want to know if these side effects are normal, and how much of a drastic change should i be expecting to see, as i can't tell if the difference i felt today was minimal because of my lack of activity or for another reason.

I am also on 40mg fluoxetine for reference and i am recovering from a pretty bed ridden year of some of the worse OCD flares i've experienced

I am really hoping/feeling that the ADHD and OCD are linked, and that this medication may support me on the OCD side as i haven't found that fluoxetine has been a game changer, although i am grateful for it. Has anyone else experienced this

Welcome to the forum.

ADHD and OCD certainly do overlap often enough that it certainly might be the case for you.

If Vyvanse is helping, and that's a pretty good indicator that you have ADHD.

Anxiety is a possible side effect of stimulant medications, like Vyvanse. For many people, the anxiety fades as their body adjusts to the medication. For some, it does not. So that is something to consider when you talk to your doctor.

Since this is your first day on the medication, it's too soon to tell it's anxiety will go away or not. It's worth mentioning to your doctor, especially if it becomes severe enough that it is a problem for you.

My recommendation is that anytime you start on a new medication for a neurological condition, you should keep notes on how it makes you feel everyday, at least for the first several days.

I agree with Stem_Dad, it will take as bit longer before you will know if the initial side effects stay or go. I had a mild tension headache in the afternoon for the first few weeks that no longer happens.

Also it may take a bit to get the right dosage, so track your symptoms and how it's helping or not and discuss it with your doctor. They can then adjust dosage as needed to maximize the benefits while minimizing any side effects.
