new month…the hunt to fill my prescription.

Each month I just DREAD getting my ADD prescription filled (or try to fill!) at my pharmacy. This morning I’ll make a list of local pharmacy’s that might have my medication available. If I’m lucky I’ll find the prescription somewhere and quickly contact the doctors office to advise than of where to fax the request. If I’m lucky, the pharmacy will be able to fill the prescription before they run out! It’s happened once or twice, where my physicians office wasn’t quick enough to get the order in! I find this so stressful! I don’t see this situation ending anytime soon. Does everyone else have this problem? Is it just in my area?

Have you found that some pharmacies are more reliable than others?

In my town, I really only have three options for pharmacies, and one of them isn't covered by my insurance.

• I'm on a non-stimulant, which my pharmacy never carried before I started filling my prescriptions through them. They now order my refills in regularly...just for me. (I think that they get a delivery from one of the bigger pharmacies in the area for their company, a regional grocery store chain.)

I know that my medication is not in short supply, like several of the stimulant medications are. So, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison, and that doesn't help you.

There's an idea...can you talk to a pharmacist about getting the medication sent from another branch in their company, if your doctor writes the 'script through them?

the work around is to call your pharmacy- tell them u need to know what mg of addy( or whatever stimulant you take) they have in stock right now n how many.

then have your dr write the script as close as possible. for example if u take 20 mg xr and the pharmacy only has 10 mg in stock, have dr write script for 10 mg xr 2 times per day.

this is how alot of us adhd’ers obtain our monthly ADHD meds. ya gotta be creative.

its my understanding that the shortage is due to manufacturers choosing not to make enough to meet demands bc most stimulants are generic and its just not cost effective for manufacturers to purchase the additional ingredients, increase production, n staff for mere pennies. its not a good business decision for manufacturers when they could be making meds that are way more profitable.
