ADHD Medications don’t mix well

I’ve been suffering from ADHD since I was a child. No matter what ADHD medications I take I get hyper focused and almost makes my ADHD worse. I find caffeine helps with ADHD but why do I get such a nasty feeling with things like Adderall and even non-stimulants like Wellbutrin? Any natural supplements work better?

After receiving my diagnosis, I spent three years trialling various stimulants and non-stimulants. Adjusting dosages up and down, I was desperate to find a regimen that could effectively manage my ADHD symptoms. Three years ago, under the guidance of my doctor, I introduced Modafinil to my Ritalin regimen and supplemented it with Nicorette spray.

I believe the efficacy of treatments varies depending on how ADHD has impacted different areas of your brain. For me, there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Alongside medication, I also worked with a psychologist to smooth out some behavioral kinks.

To address hyperfocus, I've developed a daily mantra: "Today, help me to be a husband, a father, and a man." Each day, I consciously make time for my wife, my son, and my responsibilities as an individual. This practice has gradually become second nature. Although hyperfocus still lingers, I've achieved a greater sense of balance, leading to a better life for both myself and my family.

It's never easy keeping the balance, but I have fun trying 😁

Also, and i forgot to mention this, i was focused on "meds" but i have been doing LENS neurofeedback for a little over a year and that has been amazing. the results are like none i have ever experienced in therapy or with meds. for many years leading up to a diagnosis, i often asked "wtf is wrong with me". there seemed hurdles i could never clear, neurofeedback has helped tremendously with a lot of that and so much more. there is a lot of childhood trauma in my story and LENS has helped me be able to look at these things, discuss and put them to rest. I am ADHD and have days that are really big ADHD and days not so much. since doing this and the supplements i mentioned earlier, there are many less big ADHD days.

I take Adderall but, after becoming jittery, I stopped it for 2 weeks and then began taking half what was prescribed. It seems to be my "sweet spot." I am focusing better without being as jittery or irritable. Sometimes for me, simply taking a short break from it helps, but I think the reduced dose is helpful likewise.

Some of us are more sensitive to medications, and others burn through it and it wears off super quick. This is why we talk to our doctors about these things 😊. I’m so glad you found what works for you.

I recommend a gene site test. After not being focused for so long, our bodies don’t know what to do when having all,of the focus. Definitely talk to your psychiatrist and counselor about it. They should be able to help you navigate it. You may just need to slowly start at a smaller dose or do extended release so it’s not as much,of a shock.

I was only diagnosed 2 years ago and immediately tried 3 different meds, including Adderall. none worked for me. i found a supplement thru Additude magazine - the company is called Fenix - they sell two supplements that i've been taking for probably 18 mos. or so. Accentrate 110 combined with MZI. Accentrate has Tissue-Targeted EPA & DHA, L-Methylfolate, Vitamin B6 / Vitamin B12, Vitamin D3 Riboflavin and the MZI is magnesium, zinc and iron. having adhd for so many years untreated i have no idea what normal is. for me normal is crazy lol. that said, i do definitely believe i am better for taking the supplements.

Speaking only for myself, I am very sensitive to stimulants and they're the only meds that have worked for my ADHD. I had to stop taking the extended release Adderall because the transition between the first and second releases made me feel terrible. I take immediate release now, but even then, when it wears off, or I take a day off on the weekend, I feel woozy and out of it. And I only take 5mgs! My doc said to decide for myself whether the positive effects are worth the negative. For now, they are. Good luck to you.

Look up neurofeedback for a non-medication treatment of ADHD.
