I have been on by Vance three months now, and it seems to only last a couple hours before it starts to wear off. I’ve been reading, and some people metabolize vitamins, much faster than others. Has anybody found a way to make it last longer? I am thinking about switching to Concerta because of the way, your body metabolizes it may last longer.
has anybody ever switched from Vyvanse to Concerta because Vyvanse was not lasting long?

I had the same issues, so when I took vyvanse (called Elvanse in the UK, where I am), I took staggered doses through the day, ie: biggest dose 8am, smaller dose 11am, second small dose 2pm, smallest short-acting dexamphetamine (like, 6pm) a few hours after that. It helped avoid the medication crash and also helped me sleep. Once a day is absolute bull.
Concerta XL I had to take more often again as it lasts less time. Again, no way on earth it lasted a morning, let alone a day.
Horses for courses. Find out what suits you. It takes a certain amount of trial and error!
PS: I got this tip from another ADHD forum -
A good way to stagger a dose of vyvanse/ Elvanse is to empty a vyvanse capsule into the equivalent x100 ml of water -
20mg into 200ml water,
40mg into 400ml, etc.
Stir, and drink however many tens of mg/ 100s of ml you want to experiment with.
Be sure to be regular about staggering times and doses; note it down and stick to it for a week or two, and keep tweaking til you find what suits.
This is really interesting! I’ve heard that some people do have to take more than one dose a day. I take Vyvanse at 6 am, and have noticed it wearing off around 6 or 7 pm most days, while on other days, it may begin to wane around 5 or so. Not problematic for me, but I have a slow metabolism due to thyroid issues. Wondering if you both have super-fast natural metabolisms? 🤔
Not usually! But for some reason I do with ADHD stimulant medications; it’s the same for our eldest daughter who has Combined ADHD like me (my OH has Hyperactive ADHD, Youngest is more Inattentive).
Sometimes I wonder if it’s because mine and Eldest’s ADHD is so acute we just need more medication more often. She certainly has it tough, having the most challenging aspect of my ADHD plus her dad’s ADHD too. If in our house we were all 4 on a spectrum, I think she’d be right up there, with me closely behind. So maybe it’s just we need a constant high dosage and notice as soon as it tails off it’s not working as well?
That is interesting! Both my boys are ADHD, my eldest is 40 and has had it pretty severe his whole life, SUPER hyperactive, but refuses treatment (he grew up in the 90s, when we didn’t know that much and Ritalin was all we had. He’s had a rough time.) His wife also has it, and just started on Vyvanse with really good results, so I’m hoping he’ll warm to the idea. Their daughter is definitely showing signs as well.
My younger son has been diagnosed inattentive, but suspects he’s more combined, like me. His elder son is definitely more like my elder son - super hyperactive. Such a sweet guy. Hope his experience of it is better than his uncle’s.
I had no idea that I had it. My whole life, I excelled in school, but struggled in work and so many other areas, I just thought I was inadequate and never equated it to ADHD. It took my younger son sitting down with me, revealing his diagnosis and suggesting that I get an eval that a light turned on in my brain…lol! Yeah…I often take the long way home… 🙄
I’ve been on Vyvance for a couple of years now and I do notice that there is a bit of a peak after about 3 hours. It is still working for much longer but it not the peak.
Have you tried going up on your dose?
I just started taking a small dose of short acting Methylphenidate in the afternoon to help.
But in terms of switching, Concerta is not the same type (Methylphenidate based, Vyvance is in amphetamine family) and everybody metabolizes the different types, differently.
For me, Methylphenidate does almost nothing (only helps as the boost in the afternoon now) on its own.
Adderal was too harsh for me but Vyvance has worked out pretty well.
I would look at whether you’re seeing benefits from Vyvance throughout the day (like emotional regulation, etc) and try adjusting.
We don’t know what you have tried previously either.
I think I am going to see if I can increase my dose. Started at 40 mg. Then 50 mg and tried for a couple months. Take it around 8:00 and wearing off by 12-1:00. Many I need to take it twice a day.
I was thinking concerta is a different class and your body metabolizes it differently.
