Finally getting my med!

Because of the shortage, I wasnt able to get Ritalin so my doctor prescribed generic adderall until I was able to get it. My question is: does anyone know how many hours after taking my last dose of Adderall can I start on Ritalin again? I suppose I can ask the pharmacist but I wanted to ask here first.

It would definitely be better to ask the pharmacist, or your doctor.

(I have no idea. I've been on Adderall before, but I've never been on Ritalin.)

Yeah. I plan to. I forgot to say in my question that both are for immediate release.

I would just start the next day fresh on Ritalin. If you only have a partial day left of Adderall, just save it and take it on a weekend when you don't need a full dose if it would be enough to get buy.

Or save it for the next time a shortage gets you so you have some backup. Been taking Adderall XR from 2008 and some 10mg IR from 2009 to get through this shortage. Still works fine. Better than some of the current generics. Glad I forgot I had it sitting in the drawer.

Hopefully the doctor got the dosage of Adderall right for a therapeutic result close to your Ritalin. My doctor incorrectly guessed the cross tolerance gong from Ritalin to Adderall and prescribed what was probably triple what I should have started on. Very productive, but caused other issues down the road.

Glad you got the med you need! I am laughing because I couldn't get my medication (generic Adderall, extended release) so I got Ritalin instead. First was the regular kind, and I tried one dose of 5 mg and couldn't cope with the heart rate increase. So I asked for extended release Ritalin, and actually my Adderall generic was filled first (after a delay of 16 days). It is bizarre to me. Hopefully they will solve the issue moving forward.

I'm glad you were finally able to get your medication filled. 16 days is too long to have to wait- and be without that which helps with day to day function. Hoping you won't have to go through another delay next month or ever.

Hi, Allie! Since I’ve never taken Adderall, only generic Ritalin, I’m not sure how long your Adderall stays in your system. I’d wait until you’re due for the next Adderall dose to start the Ritalin and then follow the new directions for Ritalin.

Good luck!
