I’m recently diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 45, the doctor prescribed Kinecteen for me, I would like to know how the medicine works, is it a build up effect over time or is it only for the days that we use it?

This is the kind of question you want to ask your provider, and the reason is that ADHD treatment requires a good patient-provider bond and some trust, and assertiveness. So you really can ask this of your provider.

I understand that some of us are not as comfortable asking providers information like this, but they expect these kinds of questions and are quite ready for them. So they won't be snappy at you.

Kinecteen is methylphenidate, aka Ritalin. How it works in the brain is beyond my pay grade. No, it does not stay in the body. It only lasts for the day you take it. It's in and out of your system. And there are sometimes side effects, but they often decline after a few weeks. It is not effective for everyone.

BTW: there are lots of versions of methylphenidate. I take methylphenidate, short term release. It really helps me focus and have energy and not feel so overwhelmed. Technically all the versions of methylphenidate are the same, but in reality some people do better on some versions than on others. There are immediate release versions (short term) and extended release versions of methylphenidate. I don't know what's different about Kinecteen.

Some others may know the science better, so hopefully they'll weigh in. But here is a link. It's heavy-duty brain science, but you might want to take a look.
