I was diagnosed just over a month ago, it meant they gave me a prescription for concerta and turned me loose basically.
I've been looking through material online and reading through "Driven to Distraction" to learn more about the whole thing but I just feel a bit left alone with it. My partner doesn't quite understand, I have a friend with ADHD but his experience is very different and he was diagnosed a long time ago.
I'm basically wondering if there's somewhere online I can talk to someone somewhere in the world and get some clarity with the situation because it's quite overwhelming at the moment.
The medication isn't helping me focus, even after I switched from concerta to medikinet cr, I have a thesis to write and I feel like I'm going crazy wondering what is and isn't a result of ADHD in my life. I question if it's real or I'm just making excuses and that maybe I was misdiagnosed because the meds haven't helped so far.
I don't live in an English speaking country, whilst the locals know English well the services are offered in their own language and I don't feel confident enough in ability to translate any discussion to attend anything.
Is there somewhere online I can talk directly to a person and ask a load of questions without getting a hundred different, sometimes contradictory, answers that leave me feeling more confused? Any advice would honestly be amazing.

Hi Lokabell! Welcome to the group - and to the ADHD tribe!
First of all, no - you're not just making excuses. We struggle with executive function and have very little control when it comes to what we CAN focus on and accomplish versus what we struggle to focus on. If your brain just isn't into that task for the day, it's an uphill battle.
You asked about someone to call so you can get answers. I looked up the phone number offered by CHADD (Children & Adults with ADD) thinking that might be a good resource. Here it is: CALL 1-866-200-8098
I hope they can offer some help! I'm so sorry you're feeling so alone right now. I felt very isolated initially after my diagnosis as well, but a community like this one will help you realize you do have a tribe with all the rest of us. We're here for all your questions, situations, and help needed.
Hello, Lokabell. It's overwhelming at first to get the ADHD diagnosis (I got mine just about 5 months ago at age 56)! After awhile, you will start to settle in with the new diagnosis and it won't be as much of a focus for you, but I do understand that initial desire to obsessively learn about ADHD and take a look back at your life. It's a lot to wrap your head around.
