Supplements with medication

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has tried taking vitamins/supplements with their ADHD medications and if this helped? I have been looking into it for awhile but I dont know exactly what supplements to try! I am currently on Vyvanse 70mg and feel like around 11-12pm it wears off and I crash somedays. Hoping if I add in some supplements that may help! :)

Hi there, I have Inattentive ADHD, and started taking low dose stimulant medication along with helpful supplements to help out my ADHD fully and to fight off oxidation. Stimulant medications generally help out with the neurotransmitters Dopamine and Norepinephrine, yet these are NOT the only 2 neurotransmitters people with ADHD have difficulty with. Because of this I started taking supplements in order to address the other neurotransmitters/struggles people with ADHD have, and started taking supplements to help fight off medication side effects and most importantly fight off oxidation from the medication. This has changed my life for the better these last couple of years. Similar to yourself and many others, I also suffered from the medication crash. In order to eliminate/diminish the crash, I started taking the supplement N-Acetyl Tyrosine (NALT) about 30min to an hour before my medication wears off. NALT helps the brain with the neurotransmitters Dopamine and Norepinephrine, which are temporarily lower when stimulant medication wears off, and supplementing with NALT 30min/1hr prior to the medication wearing off, has helped eliminate the crash for me. In case you're interested, if you click my picture, it'll take you to my profile on here, where in the bio section you'll find some helpful links to some resources I've created for those of us with ADHD, including a google-word doc that includes what supplements I take and how they help out ADHD, and a link to my ADHD youtube channel where I have some videos that I think might be of some assistance. Best regards!

I’m on the same meds - but Elvanse not Vyanse, as I’m in Europe. I read some research that was suggesting levels of magnesium, zinc ( and maybe other minerals but can’t remember which aha) were generally naturally lower in people with adhd. So, I got a pack of Osteocare, which has Vit D too which I also need because I’m one of the people who becomes vulnerable to deficiency of it after going vegan (the further you live from the equator the more it is recommended you take a supplement anyway though).

It might have coincided with other things, but I do think it helped. Maybe it depends on the individual, you could monitor your diet and see what your vitamin intake is and where you are lacking. I remember using cronometer a couple years ago and I was able to see what I was missing. Though I wouldn’t recommend this if you struggle with body image and focus a lot on weight loss.

If it’s wearing off early and you’re crashing maybe you can ask for a short-acting top up, 11-12 sounds really early
