Thank you!: Wow! Thank you everybody... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
Thank you!
Public education invented ADHD. Children that teachers could not figure out how to teach. Of course it canāt be the systems fault so, you and I were labeled with a deficit and a deficiency. In fact it was a surplus of attention that made structured education impossible. We were thinking about everything while the teacher was teaching one thing. We were gifted. Teachers were not trained in how to guide kids with the gift of āAttention Diversity- Hyper-Discernmentā.
Welcome to the real ārealā world. The one where we just canāt hide our damage anymore. Anyway, it turns out - itās not damage! - yay! - Itās individuality.
From start to finish in our lives, we are guided and redirected to be part of a group (of some kind) but groups eschew (fancy word alert) individuality. Groups demand conformity, conformity at the cost of individuality.
Re: your experience in school. (As I understand it) In 1909, a bunch of childless men met in secret to form āThe Boston School Committeeā. Their goal was to form a unified culture as they watched waves of immigrants come to America. Their goal was to take the children out of their homes and form them into a single society. They referred to the individual learning from parents and family as āpromiscuous fraternizationā.
The compulsory education you and I were forced into aimed at one outcome one imaginary perfect model student. Individual traits and personality has no place. We were graded on our success at becoming that model. On one hand it has to admit that academic achievement should be graded on a curve with most people being in the middle (C average) but in the other hand it told us that we should ALL get an A in everything to be a success.
Alās Axiom #63 āThere are no individuals in a group.ā
Wow, That is so true. When I found out in 1985 that I was dyslexic, my dad responded, ā Congratulations! Your always looking for excuses, now youāve found one.āThank goodness my dad and I were able to repair our relationship before he passed away, and I love and miss both my parents now that they are gone. It just shows how right you are about our generations lack of empathy and understanding. The sad thing is that they were using tough love. They were to trying to help us the only way that they knew how.
