What notebook or system do you use for lists and remembering things you need to do?

I have bought so many different notebooks over the years in an attempt to get organised. I like to make lists and get everything out of my head and on to paper. The problem lies in actually doing anything off the list! I tend to forget to look at it and will then find it some days/weeks later!

My latest idea was to buy a filofax notebook which you can divide into sections. I filled each section with paper and labelled them for various aspects of my life. I felt so organised! A few weeks on and I’ve hardly looked at the sections! I actually find writing reminders on post it notes the best way and then throwing them once done. But I still tell myself as busy working mum, I ought to be organised and have a notebook!

What does anyone else do or use to try and be organised and remember things?

I have tried dozens too. The only ones that work for me are the online monthly calendars (ical, etc...) and a paper weekly one. I keep big stuff in the monthly and try to see the week ahead and too do lists on the weekly. Any time I try any other system I fail. The more colors and complications required the harder it is for me to stay organized. Good luck.

I do the same as hldb. Digital main calendar that goes on all devices and a weekly paper calendar. This paper calendar that I hang on my fridge is great for my weekly planning - meals and activities for 2 kids, my husband and self. momagenda.com/product/momag.... Good luck!

I only have one planner. I used to have one for work and one for personal life but I’ve found now just using one helps. If there are things I need to do on the weekend I keep hitting them down in my planner and then move them to a scrap piece of paper that I use throughout my day while I’m running errands.

As a group we tend to “over list” so don’t beat yourself up over not getting everything done. I prioritize by what has to get done and what I’d like to get done. I do that with work and at home.

I’ve also started working with an ADHD coach who has helped me prioritize. It’s made a world of difference! It’s very self-regulated but she helps keep me on track.

Is the ADHD coach very expensive?

I put only three things a day on my calendar. If I don’t have three things, then I go to that “list” of non-urgent but important to-dos. The important ones will eventually get on your daily list of three when they become urgent. If I never get around to something it’s OK because it probably wasn’t that important, just a want to do.

Hi Holly,

The one that worked like a charm for me was my palmtop franklincovey planner it was electronic and died many years ago... now I stick mostly to the paper planner.... for important to do I use stickups and put them on the outside of my planner..... if I put them inside I will forget them.... I also use google keep for my shopping list... writing what I run out of as I do...

My planner is my base and everything goes in there and is planned around it... I don’t make plans without it...

Hope you find something that works for you.

I have yet to try this: but I read somewhere that bullet journalling is the best for ADHD

Organized or not, post-its and one notebook/planner/folder/binder (something with a pocket to catch random papers that you need) seem to be my best bet.

I also find post-its on the outside of the planner or around my computer screen are helpful.
