What test do I ask my dr for?
Can you give us a little more information about what you’re hoping to learn through testing? Are you wondering about how to pursue an ADHD diagnosis? If so, there’s no one test to request; you’ll need to talk to your doctor about your symptoms and go from there. A psychiatrist is generally best able to recognize, diagnose, and treat ADHD. Hope that helps.
This is a really long answer, but I am writing it, so that you will not have to go through what I had to go to.
My answer to you is to find a specialist. There are doctors that specialize in ADHD. Here is why I recommend this;
All my doctors over the past 36 years misdiagnosed me, even though I had all of the history and traits. In 1985, I was diagnosed as dyselic, and sent to college classes to help me hold down jobs.I still lost jobs, so in 1991 I tried going back to college. After seeing how hard I was struggling, the college sent me to Voch Rehab.Voch. Rehab, gave a really grueling tests, and paid for training, so that I could work.
After losing more jobs, I gave up. They had me diagnosed with cognitive and executive dysfunctions.
I would lose my jobs because of my short term memory loss, getting instructions messed up, and working to slow." No one knew how to help me, although I had two different doctors think that I might have ADHD they even tried me on Strattera. When they didn't see any improvement, they each took me off of it, and kind of shrugged their shoulders, because they didn't know what to do.
It was not until I looked on line for help, that I found an ADHD/ADD specialized Clinic . After interviewing me on the phone, they set me up with an appointment.
Once the doctors saw the results, they were able to confirm that I have modestly to severe ADHD, and that I have had it all my life. They sent me to a cardiologist for an EKG and an ultra sound of my heart, so they could determine what kind of medication they could put me on. In the meantime, they have me a packet of information on ADHD in adults, and recommend this site, so that I could learn more, and have a community of people just like me, so I would no longer feel alone.
The insurance has approved the medication, so I finally now have hope, and a new voluntary career...I want to help others, so that they don't have to go it alone, like I had to for so many years.
More than a test. It’s usually a bunch of characteristics and a therapist usually can determine that
