Stuck in a career path rut

I’m 27 y/o currently a returning college student who is working full time as a classroom aid for a preschool. I’m taking anatomy and chemistry. I’m considering nursing or elementary education. I dislike having to do papers or project oriented stuff for elementary route, and at same time when doing chemistry and anatomy it’s hard to push through especially once I hear how nursing is rigorous, I signed up for CNA class in spring, which is required to get in the program here

I feel stressed out since I’m only making minimum wage with a BS degree, relying on my dad for finances. I don’t know what I’m doing with these risky decisions, I don’t have adhd or career counselors in my area either. I wish my first job is what I’m doing now, and should of done a trade (at time trades to me meant dirty physical work like welding, mechanic, or electrician (no interest in mechanical things)

My adhd is primarily impulsive, attention span, and since I’ve gotten older I start relating concepts or connecting things, I get distracted by talking to people as well

Yup I get that. You’re lucky that you’ve got a career trajectory. But I know that feeling is never fun. God got us on our path for a reason sometimes, keep trying

You’re not in a career rut - you’re actually doing a lot to sort out what you need to do for your chosen path. It sounds like the indecisiveness about what to pick is eking out your confidence. I started just making a decision - it might not be the best one but it was going to be a good one regardless. Neither of your options are bad. You’re moving forward.

ADHD counsellors - see if you can find an online one and your college may also offer a support service.

In my case, I taught my daughter how to act as an accountability coach and that helped - we set weekly targets and then check to see if I’ve completed and identify actions for barriers for what’s not done. That helps. There may be someone in your circle who can do that for you and help as a pacer for projects etc that are really challenging.

May I ask why you haven’t considered becoming a certified teacher? All you need is a Bachelors degree.

Not what you're looking for?
