Hello! My name is Natasha (21 yrs), I’m undiagnosed and new to this website. I can’t help but find similarities between myself and the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. I forget things quite a lot as if I have short term memory loss. Like just about every day, without fail, I’d walk to my car after work and realize I left my keys sitting in the office. You’d think after a couple times I’d remember to grab them next time? And that goes for my phone, keys, vape, shoes etc. at home too. I also fidget A LOT especially when I’m at work. I tap my feet, pop my knuckles every hour, snap my fingers, dance, wave my arms, and tap. If I’m not doing one of those I’m usually zoning out. I also have a hard time getting motivated to do things I need to do, especially things around the house. I need to do chores and really want to do them, so I’ll start but then my mind wanders to something else. Whether it’s the music I’m playing or I’m thinking about video games. Like I at least can buckle down for one day a week to be like “Hey, get this stuff in order or else it’ll never get done!!!” So I’ll finally spend the whole day cleaning but with tons of breaks in between. So is this just me being weird and hella lazy??? Or could it be a minor case of ADD/ADHD? I’m not unhappy with my life by any means I just wish I could be more self motivated and productive with my life without having everything feel like a huge chore.
Could I Have ADD/ADHD?: Hello! My name... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
Could I Have ADD/ADHD?
Hey there Nat
Well these can be signs of adhd but also other conditions.
What I would say is does you brain feel like it’s going like a speeding train.
You can be happy and have adhd but you can also be manic which is like woo hoo I’ve got a headache but I feel like I’m at a night club full of beans lol.
Personally I would go get tested and I’ll tell you why.
So I was diagnosed at 40. I’m now 50.
Before being diagnosed I was just one massive person on the go speeding along merrily not thinking anything was ever wrong.
Like you at 20 I was fired up I had a safety net around me by working for the family business which meant every day the same don’t have to get scared.
Later on in life I started my own business and it ran pretty successfully.i had food on the table a nice flat by the see a motor for the adrenaline and a nice well looked after van
Bang that’s when it hit me.
Am I lazy.i do jobs really quickly or else I get bored and find yet another excuse to go to the coffee shop.christ I used to drink about 8 large extra shot lattes.
I was litteraly pinging and bouncing and every day I wanted more.i woujd for a lovely blast on the bike in the summer yet I was as flat as a pan cake.it was so confusing.
Any I started not caring about getting to a job on time.
I found after a year or so I had like 4 drills 6 hammers etc etc.
I would put a bright yellow drill on the table and not be able to find it for Atleast 30 mins.
Any way cut along story short.
I got diagnosed with in 3 months, yer back in the day it was so much quicker in the uk.
The relief that I wasn’t done alien losing his marbles.
I felt a huge weight lifted of its was awesome.
So now 10 yrs on have gone through quiet a few drug trials and with seeing different psychiatrists along the way with there different views I’m now able to like and love my self deeply with in and just well love my self for being able to cope with just about trauma in life as I’ve learnt from them .
I have three amazing friends who have supported me last year and this year and just judged me a few times in the right direction.yup they know I’m different bouncy see life from a different angle.
Oops there you adhd at it’s best totally of topic
Yer go and get assessed and if you find you have it you won’t like me have another 20 yrs of hard shop miss understandings with in your self.you will have better luck with being able to deal with the long term issues that adhd can bring about
So there I hope that helped.
Ps I really do think I should write a book lol
Best of luck and see what the next adventure holds for you
I’m pretty much around all day if ya wanna chat
T
Hi Natasha. It could be, but those symptoms could also be caused by other things (e.g., lack of sleep, anxiety, nutritional deficiencies). A key question is how are these symptoms negatively impacting your life? An ADHD diagnosis requires not only that you have the symptoms, but that they are causing some sort of impairment (most often at home, work, or school). I’d recommend reading “Delivered from Distraction” by Dr. Ned Hallowell, and if what you read (or hear, if you prefer audiobooks—many ADHDers find it difficult to read) resonates, you can seek out an evaluation from a mental health professional.
Seek some help and find out what the problem is
Hi Natasha! I am recently diagnosed and twice your age lol! I found this website to be a good resource when you are first becoming aware of what you may be dealing with. It has quizzes and a symptom checker but I would recommend seeing a psychiatrist to get evaluated. Best of luck to ya! additudemag.com/
