How to get back on concerta, or ritilin

How do I go about getting back on my medication if I don't have health insurance and I also don't want to be put on anything but what I was taking when I was taking off my medication just because I ran out of health insurance because I turned 18. I can't keep a job to get back on health insurance, and I've been self medicating with crystal meth amphetamine and I believe it will be the death of me if I don't kill myself before it does.

Hey you, your turning bad into worse. You are in a predicament bc it will be difficult to find a Dr/NP who will rx the med that works for you when you are addicted to meth. No judgement, at all. Im thinking you might need to go to a treatment center and stabilize( as much as us ADHDers get) from the meth. When you are in rehab, a case manager / counselor will help you get medicaid, and temporary financial assistance, and help you find a 1/2 way house so you can be sober and re stabilized on your ADHD meds. Thats my suggestion as an addiction counselor in US. If you are outside US, then i honestly have no idea and hope someone else will chime in.

Meth is not the answer 😢 Be safe and reach out to the hotlines if your on the ledge. No problem is bigger than what human potential can handle.

Hello Mr. Wandell,

Getting restarted on medication can take some doing, but it sounds like you are ready and have the determination to get the help you need. As you said, the street drugs are not helping your health.

I don't know what state you are located in, but you may want to look up what plans are available for you either through your state's health care exchange or at HealthCare.gov

Enrollment is Nov. 1-Dec. 15, so now is a good time to explore what is available.

You can also reach out to local social service agencies, including your county's depeartment of health, or private ones such as Lutheran Family Services or Catholic Charities (I mention these two specifically because they take anyone who comes to them and have no interest in persuading you to their religious belief). These agencies will often ask a few questions about your resources and then bring you in on a slide-scale basis for treatment.

Y-ou can give the National Resource Center's Helpline a call M-F, 1-5 p.m. ET at 866-200-8098. Our health information specialists can help look for resources near you.

Best wishes,

Karen

If in the United States, you also can be on your parent's insurance policies until you're 26 according to the ACA. Look into that. Maybe, if you have parents or a caretaker, they'll allow you to stay on if you can just help them pay the premiums. Talk to somebody too. I know money must be really tight, but counseling can help. Also, there are a slew of youtube videos on coping with ADHD.

Much love. One step at a time.
