Hello, I am new here. I was not aware if I had any problems but currently saw an episode on ADHD and realized I matched all the symptoms given. I have never taken any sort of mental health treatment and actually am scared of going to any Psychiatrist. Yet I do need help to be more mentally healthy. Please advise what should I do. As I do not want to take medicines.

My advice is to research this further and then consider your options..... there are lot’s of good books available- i read one by Sari Solden, she’s really good!

I found a website called “totally add” Using humour, there are a ton of videos on everything add/hd, PLUS +, there’s a pretty good non medical test you take to get started.

Getting a councillor or therapist to talk to while you are on this journey is also my strong recommendation . Having someone to talk through decisions, and priorities and to help keep you accountable and boost your self esteem is invaluable!

Good luck on your journey!

Hello Gitanjali_pantvaidya. It is wonderful that you have found this platform . I was diagnosed last fall at the age of 56. Not having a diagnosis or treatment for so long was literally killing me, physically and emotionally. I cannot tell how heartbreaking it is to spend most of my life struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and the lack of coping strategies to navigate on a daily basis. After having the ability to focus, I was able to find a counselor and a therapist. It is so encouraging that I was able to get the help I needed. Finally! Stating your concerns and fears is very important should you seek a diagnosis. I agree with what Snowsunli suggested. Good luck in your endeavours! :)

Unfortunately, for many years I was part of a community that really dismissed therapy as being for crazy people! I was sooo wrong. To be clear to, a psychiatrist can help, esp for diagnosis and they can prescribe medication. So can an MD. A psychologist doesn't prescribe medication but can make recommendations and offer various kinds of therapy.

I have been seeing a licensed marriage and family therapist and it's given me so many tools to help me to grow and change. Talk therapy has been a huge benefit to me. There is also Cognitive behavioral therapy that helps us deal with wrong thinking patterns. Do some research and find out what can help you.

Seeing a therapist doesn't mean I'm crazy. The truth is I have become so much most healthy! Don't be afraid to try... What do you have to lose? 😊
