I am trying to find a single comprehensive source that I can show her so she can sit and absorb the information rather than losing patience with me showing her 100s of sources (which is something I would do). I would like her to know that what I experience are not just things that everyone does sometimes or that me talking about this is not me giving excuses to cover all the mess-ups. I want her to understand that it is real and I need help, but also that together we can get through this. I would like to end at a positive note so that she doesn't end up wanting to divorce me after seeing it or (on the serious side) doesn't get depressed herself by thinking about the kind of relationship we are going to be in.
What is a good information source (pr... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
What is a good information source (preferably video format) that can be used to educate a non-ADHD spouse about ADHD?
Hope you manage to find something , there must be something out there
Yes I’m hopeful our community may have had such needs and can give some really good suggestions
I'm actually looking into things to do with ADD ,ADHD, been diagnosed for years but just ignored it, I'm thinking It would be good idea to read up on it as it might help unstick me and the way I live just now.
Definitely! Let me know what you find
I will do 👍
HowToADHD is one of my favorite youtube channels and has been so immensely helpful for me. youtube.com/channel/UC-nPM1...
In your case specifically, there's this video about what to do if a loved one has ADHD and how someone without ADHD can help support them: youtube.com/watch?v=LcZuL1j...
That video is part of a playlist that describes what ADHD is like, and watching that may help: youtube.com/playlist?list=P...
Finally, there is a playlist specifically about ADHD and how it plays out in relationships to help with communicating about it with your spouse: youtube.com/playlist?list=P...
Hopefully that helps! Good luck and I hope she comes to understand and support you through your struggles with ADHD.
This is what I was going to recommend - I think she does an excellent job of making things understandable.
I have been following her since a while too now and def have her channel in my list of options. I’m just screening for one that covers most important things (it might just be her video about relationships). My wife won’t sit very patiently to watch a playlist, especially with our baby doing a great job at testing her patience haha. So I want to be sure that I get the single best one.
Thank you!!
This could be in one of the playlists above. Although it's about children's ADHD, the explanation is very good as to what's happening (and hampering) in our brains. youtube.com/watch?v=ouZrZa5...
Hey, I listened this lecture by Russell Barkley yesterday and clicked around until I found the accompanying slides which were a great visual: additudemag.com/podcast-key.... I'd be curious to see what you think. Maybe listen first, then have her listen if you think it's a good idea to share it. He's excellent (as you may already know) at describing the behaviors in a nuanced and concise way. The way it can impact the lifespan for various reasons also stood out to me. I'm thinking about sharing with my husband who is undiagnosed and in denial of the ADHD symptoms. Good luck!!!!
If you get any podcasts or go on to the CHADD website and search for webinars, there are helpful resources there. My husband and I listened to Driven to Distraction in the car to understand our son. and it turned out that we both decided I am the same way. I was able to get a diagnosis as well.
Hey that is so interesting that you got your diagnosis that way! I enjoy podcasts and found some episodes of Distraction especially helpful. One of them was the one in which Sue and Ned take questions and one of the callers was just describing our life haha
Dr. Judith Orlov has a great book called the ADHD Effect on Marriage. So many aha moments reading f it. She also has a Webinar and live phone consultations. I am sure there must be something g she has done in video format. You’ll get there.
Sorry. Melissa Orlov.

Thank you all for sharing these resources! I started with a How to ADHD - How to (explain) ADHD when my wife was finally ready to learn about it. Because of the nice and short video it was with the easy to follow narration, it worked! She is now willing to sit with me and learn more and I am happy that this is happening in our life. I am sure this will save our relationship from going in the wrong space and will save me from some of the criticism
Check out the YouTube channel, How To ADHD. She does an excellent job explaining ADHD, the things affecting us, and some great techniques to help us.
