Hello my name is Sarah i was diagnosed with ADHD impulsivity hyperactivity at age 5. After my mother tried treating me for a common cold with nyquil and i was jumping off the walls. 6 months later i got the diagnosis. Life has been very complicated ever since i feel worthless. I was on ritalin abd many other medications starting at 5 years old. In adulthood i have developed and anxiety therepy and psychitrist and started self medicating with street stimulants. My best years was wheni was on ritalin. It really boggles me that the stimulant affects me opposite then normal brains. Same with any drowsy meds. Ill be ready to jump on any OVC sleep aids. Does other ADHD BRAINS work the same

Stimulants are thought to bring our brains up to a "normal" levels of important neurotransmitters like dopamine, which explains the seemingly contradictory effects it has on people with ADHD.

I can't say I've ever felt energized after taking sleep meds, but it could be due to a similar effect, changing your brain chemistry to a level that it doesn't for other people's brains
