Medication side effects? Coming off med

My son has ADHD and taking concerta 27mg , he is failing math and other classes, he has socisl anxiety and no friends and I feel medication has bad effect on him. He comes home from school and doesn't talk . If ask questions he gets mad. He was never this way before. This medication make you angry? Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal.

Could be medicine, could be that he's becoming a teenager. Sullenness (dark, quiet, moody) is not uncommen at that age.

I can only speak for myself, but maybe it will help give you some insight. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that I was able to seek out a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist for general anxiety and social anxiety. CBT really helped me with my anxiety issues, but one day my therapist caught on to me having ADHD. The therapist didn't specialize in ADHD and referred me to a specialist. The specialist tested me and confirmed the ADHD and I was put on Adderall. The Adderall works, absolutely... but, it's tough because giving a stimulant to someone who has anxiety can make the anxiety condition worse. Had I not had many sessions of CBT, I'm not sure how I do with my anxiety issues while being on Adderall. Being a teenager on top of all that probably doesn't help.

Also, for me personally, I can not take Adderall and caffeine, my anxiety really gets activated (I had to switch to decafe coffee and no caffeinated soda drinks). So check that he's not drinking caffeinated beverages while taking the concerta. I hope this helps in some way. If his current situation continues, please seek out professional help.
