Do any of you experience the benefits of coffee while on medication? Is it safe? Please share your experiences.

From personal experience, coffee has a great effect on "settling me down" from ADHD Brain.

I find that I get more irritated if I have coffee with my medication. However, I do feel more awake and motivated. I love my coffee, but I want my medicine to relax me, not put me on edge, so I've been easing off of it.

Thank you. Yeah I've been having a cup towards the end of my medication cycle. It feels great, motivating, etc. Trying not to mix it immediately.

Coffee in the morning helps me wake up and get my pre-frontal cortex fired up. Now my tobacco pipe, easy chair, and a cocktail? That is relaxing! Love the aromatic tobaccos--rasberry is my favorite!

This is prior to your medication? Anyways, that's cool man. Cigars.. Interesting.

Short acting (3-4 hour) Ritalin in the morning--I take 60mg shortly after waking up and at least a mug of coffee before going out the door. About lunchtime, I take 40mg of Ritalin to keep the brain going until the end of the work day. I don't do coffee late in the day or take Ritalin too late either as I find both taken late in the day adversely impacts my ability to fall asleep--which I also take medication for as well (works great by the way). I like a tobacco pipe over cigars as with a pipe it is by it's very nature a relaxing thing to do, a leisurely ritual.

Wow you take 100mgs of Ritalin per day? My Psychiatrist maxed me out at 70 mgs. Under her guidance of "its OK if you take some as needed" I have experimented with more and I think I would do better at a higher dose. Also, 30mgs is currently the ER version. I much prefer the plain quick acting. The ER racks my nerves.

Safe, I'm not sure, because now after an abnormal EKG--I need to go for an echocardiogram. High cholesterol and heart failure run in my family. So, my reply is that it really is different for everyone.

I have about 2 cups in the morning. I’m on a higher dose of adzynys and I feel great. Calm and focused. As long as you aren’t having any symptoms with the caffeine, ie heart palpitations or anything else I’d say it’s fairly safe

Thanks man. I am trying to find the right dose of coffee use, because the meds don't allow for "all day" type of focusing and calmness. This is what Im truly seeking. It can get frustrating when your brain doesn't follow through with things.

My meds are an extended release form. I’d say I get a solid 5 to 6 hours out of that and my doctor prescribed me a “booster” 5mg Adderall if needed for the rest of the day. The idea, I am told is to have it in your system throughout the entire day. If I was in your position, I would tell my Doctor what was going on and see what they can do. Hope that helps and good luck.

My wife is Brazilian and they drink little thimbles of Cafezinho--which means little coffee. When her family is around, I love to wave 20oz mug of coffee and call it a Cafezao (big coffee). I will drink almost a full pot to myself each day. No adverse effects as far as I know.
