This is why i don’t eat refined foods and sugar

I gave up sugar (refined and white) and i gave up all type of refined foods including refined white flour as well. I saw improvements to some extent from both initiatives. Also, i saw improvement by reducing carbohydrate foods. I had to do that because sugar and refined foods made me dizzy.

When i started taking medication i didn’t see any problem with a moderate amount of sugar and with more carbohydrate. I didn’t see problems with those foods when i was a smoker (for 19 years) and before being a smoker.

After complaining to my doctor all of my psychological and physical symptoms, he diagnosed me with add and anxiety. He said that ADD from which i have been suffering from my childhood is the core of my all symptoms.

• I don’t know whether these links of refined foods and carbs with symptoms are direct or indirect.

** Abruptly giving up sugar may have some withdrawal symptoms.

There's been lots of evidence that indicates a link between ADHD and being drawn to refined foods including carbs & sugars. They tend to produce a neurochemical/emotional response with seratonin/dopamine and helps stimulate the ADHD brain. Cutting out some of those refined foods can help with ADHD symptoms, but also by treating the ADHD symptoms with therapy or medication, it's possible that the cravings and use of those foods will go down. Sounds like you've already been experiencing that. Hopefully the treatment for your ADHD will help you in other areas too.

When you say refined flour. Do you mean not eating anything that has flour in it?

I usually avoid all types of gluten also. That means all types of wheat foods should be included in this list. But, it is not possible for always. If i take foods that mades of flour it must be whole or very little amount if it was refined or not whole.

Your on the right path. Diet makes a big difference in how you feel with ADD. Gluten is another one that disturbs you thinking. Making sure your microbiome [gut] is healthy is extremely important too. Your intestines need to be free of crap, too. My memory is not working well now so I recommend going to BrainMD, it's Dr Amens website. He is well-known for his knowledge and treatments for ADD, world-wide. Lots of info on his site, several tests you can do online to refine the type of ADD you have. Try and eat Organic only if possible or at least GMO free. Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts organically grown if possible. Pesticides in general will ruin your health along with other toxins in our world. Get online where you can find most of what you need to know. Greenmedinfo is an excellent resource for everything I mentioned also.

Sugar, high fructose corn syrup, GMO, cause inflammation, pain, and so much more. These also ravage your gut microbiome. If your gut is not healthy you will not be able to absorb most of the nutrition in your foods. This means you need to cut out all the crap you eat, sugar laden. grains. I have a hard time with this right now because I am depressed and just don't care in general, working on that and will succeed with my sugar addiction. Its more than just taking the right pills, they help, but if you want to feel better you need to change almost everything in your life. Not all at once.But a little at a time or however fast you want to go. If your gut isn't healthy your body can't make melatonin, serotonin, dopamine which you need to sleep, feel better and more in control of your ADD. God Bless

Thank you so much. I suspected gluten i wasn’t sure about that. In future i will try to avoid GMO. I feel i may have problems in my gut and It's absorbtion. But very little i know about it. I will browse that sites which you have provided.

GMO'S CAUSE CANCER! EVEN THE WORLD HEALTH ORGINIZATION HAS ADMITTED IT. ROUND-UP A PESTICIDE IS USED ON ALMOST ALL FOOD UNLESS IT SAYS SO AND ORGANIC EVEN THOUGH IT COST MORE is the best way to limit your exposure to it. They even spray crops after harvesting with round--up to speed up the ripening process. Your gut is very important, and healing it will go along way to healing. Gmo's, sugar in all forms, bread, etc...destroys your gut`and I am not just talking heartburn. Most nutrients, vitamins, and food in general are unable to be used by the gut.Serotonin is made in the healthy gut. you become malnourished no matter how much you eat. Heard of leaky gut? Thats when food is leaking out of the gut, basically. It is a nightmare! Most doctors are still living in the last century, because that is what they were taught. There is just too much new information coming out thru new research. I truly hope you will investigate for your self. Greenmedinfo.com, DR Amen, Dr Mercola, are a few who are trying to keep up with all the new information. Plus they are easily available on the internet.

I retired as a nurse after 30+ years of working. Now I can read the research. And it is overwhelming to me all the new information and a lot of it contradicts the old school thinking.

I heared about leaky gut. However, i know very little about it. I heared amla is good for leaky gut but amla powder lowers my blood pressure.

I have ADD, the same thing without the hyperactivity, though I can't tell if I was hyperactive as a kid or not. Was always getting told off. ADHD used to be just ADD anyway :) But I have type 1 diabetes so I consider myself valid, just for 1 post.

I find it repulsive how some meds even contain additives that are 'proven' to cause hyperactivity in children. Take sunset yellow for example. A well-known culprit. Used simply to make the pill all orange and yummy looking. Or maybe its a trick of the mind thing. I have a better solution for yellow & orange, Vit B2 (riboflavin) & turmeric.

As for artificial sweeteners, why are so many people unaware of stevia extract? Natural & a very intense & potent sweetener. All artificial sweeteners (Acesulfame K, Aspartame, Sucralose, the 'tols' [xylatol, mannitol- all of which have lovely laxative effects), as well as unnecessary, added sugar (what on earth is 'inverted' glucose syrup?), disguised sugar (starches, maltodextrin) and alternative names (sucrose, lactose, glucose), could all easily be substituted using Stevia. So why not?

Answer: must be one huge monopoly on the artificials. Obviously.

Mind you, the 'experts' say that xylitol actually has a beneficial effect on the teeth! You'll find it in many kinds of toothpaste. They said that about flouride too. Still do!

And all these different names, no doubt, are there to confuse people trying to educate themselves by reading ingredients on the packaging.

I also think there should be an international law saying that all foods with a carbohydrate content of 10% or more should be accurately labelled. Restaurant menus too.

Being a diabetic I find it so frustrating when a freshly baked loaf of bread or any fresh bakery product has no info about the nutritional value on the packaging at all. All guesswork. Restaurants, just the same. "So, how many units of insulin should I take when I don't know the carb content?"

Surprisingly, table sugar (sucrose) has a GI (glyceamic index) of about 67. It's the glucose that is in the chocky bars and gummy sweets that is the main culprit, being 100 on the GI. Its the actual mainframe of the Glycaemic Index itself. Even Cornflakes are over 90! (yeah, really). Potatoes aren't that great either especially roasted. Funny how 'sweet' potatoes have a relatively low GI.

'Pure fruite juice too'? Why? Orange fiber makes me calm but i felt i am allergic to it. Is it the cause?

I know because I have a sensor on my arm and can read blood glucose levels by simply scanning it with a small device or even my phone. Because I rarely have to do a finger-prick blood test I can scan the sensor as many times as I like. So I have tested a lot of foods.

Having diabetes means keeping blood glucose (blood sugar) levels steady. And I've done hundreds of thousands of blood tests and know then eating whole oranges, apples & many other fruits tend to raise glucose levels more gradually than pure, extracted juices whether fresh with bits or concentrate. Doesn't matter.

IDK, maybe during the juicing process much of the fructose breaks down to glucose by the time you buy it off the shelf. Not sure. I do know that the fibre in whole fruit will help to slow down its glucose/fructose release. And maybe if you do your own juicing and drink it straight away the fructose might remain intact. Which needs to be broken down to glucose by the liver. This takes time so fructose has a very low Glycemic Index of around 20-25.

White sugar and brown sugar is actually sucrose, as I'm sure you know. Sucrose is simply fructose & glucose bound together, thats why it says 'sugar' on a food label, doesn't always mean its bad, it is the glucose you want to watch for or sometimes called glucose syrup or inverted glucose/sugar syrup. Inverted fructose syrup is ok, as far as I'm aware. Fructose is somewhat sweeter than glucose or sucrose (white or brown sugar). You can buy it from some health/supplement stores.

'Inverted' simply means sucrose broken down into its 2 parts - glucose & fructose. Usually by boiling water. So, inverted sugar (or inverted sucrose) syrup is both 'free' glucose & 'free' fructose. Inverted glucose syrup is only the 'free' glucose part & inverted fructose syrup is the other 'free' part of sucrose (white/brown sugar). Confused?

Interesting! That does mean Fructose could be preferable and should be experimented by consuming with upgradation of dose. Because, i found several links about fructose has negative effects on brain and metabolism as well. Howeve, they said it about intakes of excessive amount.

The big problem is corn, as in high fructose corn syrup. Almost all corn is contaminated with glycoside [as in Roundup ready crops. If you check food labels you will find out most processed foods have it. Now most fruits and vegetables are also given a final spray of Roundup to encourage the fruit/vegetables to ripen sooner and to protect them from spoiling.

Cornflakes was invented by Dr.Kellogg , in order to curb masturbation at the sanatorium where he worked. It was one of his anti-masturbation breakfasts.

Fruit juices cause a spike in blood sugar, but whole fruits not so much because of it's fiber content. Juices in general have very little fiber.

Yeah! Most juices are almost free from fiber. Fiber could work as good probiotic in our gut.

I sometimes think where is the difference between add and adhd. Doctor included anxiety and after eliminating h. I thought, Does it mean anxiety is substitute of hyperactivity? Lol. I don’t know. But i cannot control some of my impulses. And, everybody complain about me i do excess when i do some things like reading, surfing internet, playing games and some other things. I will see this link. People have always said "Ssshhh! Lower your voice" to me. I'm not aware of it until someone points it out. Now, I'm so fed up of having people do that I go mental! Tell them "I am how I am and ain't changing for no f****r!" lol I can only take so much of that. They always back off looking totally gobsmacked, and I'm left feeling over-self-conscious. AGAIN.

Perhaps that's MY hyper part.

Can I ask, is there any chance you have developed a histamine intolerance !! What you describe is exactly to the T what happens to me with any refined processed food , sugar , even fruits .

For me ; mine has developed since being out on an awful antidepressant called mirtazpine . As i slowly reduce it , I become histamine intolerant . May be worth having a read about it , but what you describe is exactly me . I am not on any meds for adhd ( I have ASD aswell ) as it’s been a shit show by the company that diagnosed me . Just been referred to psychiatrist at my areas mental health support . She is going to lol through my notes and come up with some ideas , yet she is not an adhd specialist , so god know s. Have a read about histamine intolerance . Banana for instance , after 2 hours , dizzy and hot in face and feel weird . Apples do to some degree . Sugar , boxed cereals ( not porridge ) bread , fruit juice , yeast etc
