I'm 27 years old and have had acne for about 7 years, with it getting worse as i got older. I finally started isotretinoin treatment 6 weeks ago and have had numerous side effects although not particularly bad. The dry skin is the most obvious side effect and sensitivity to sun. I have read though, that zinc supplements can also help your skin so was wondering if i could take these at the same time and maybe it might help reduce the intensity of the other side effects if lucky. Is it safe to take zinc supplements whilst on isotretinoin?
Thanks!

Hi, I was just wondering how it's going? My son is starting Isotretinoin treatment next week and I'm nervous about it. I was wondering how the experience had been for you? Did you ever find out if the zinc helped?
I did take the zinc tablets alongside and to be honest don’t really know if it helped or not. But I’m still taking them now so hoping it helps keep my skin clear. I finished my treatment this January and my skin is so great now! I’m so pleased I went on it. It was scary to go on isotretinoin initially, but it’s been so worth it for me. I didn’t get really bad side effects just dry skin that was manageable with the right creams and achey joints every now and then. One thing I’m pleased I did was take the lowest 20mg dose and took it for longer (11 months), which I’d recommend if your son is worried about side effects like I was. Let me know if you want any product recommendations or any other info as I feel I sussed out what worked well!
Thank you so much for getting back to me, it's very reassuring to hear that you had a positive experience and that you're happy with the results. Thanks for the advice of taking the lower dose for longer, I will talk to his consultant about this.
Any product recommendations you can make to help him manage his skin during the process would be greatly appreciated.
