Hi all, this may be a stupid question and I think I already know the answer.
I was booked in before lockdown to have a tattoo, which has obviously now been postponed until lockdown has lifted and shops are back open. I will be starting a roaccutane course fairly soon, and I wondered whether anyone could tell me whether you can still have tattoos whilst on the medication?
I understand that it makes your skin super sensitive and for this reason I expect that tattoos are a no go, and is so, how long would you have to wait after finishing a course of roaccutane to get a tattoo? I just wanted to know for sure, whether anyone has any past experiences? I’m not fussed whether it just means that the tattoo would be more painful, my worry is if it caused scarring, etc?
Thanks in advance!

I noticed that my skin was slightly sore on my face for the initial couple of months of taking the tablets but that was it. I don’t think you will experience any more pain than normal. I think it will depend whether you have spots where you are intending on having your tattoo. If you do then personally, I would hold back for a couple of months so it has settled down. Hope it goes ok.
The tattoo I’m getting is on my upper back just below my neck, and I do have a few spots there. I’m wondering whether to wait before going on the medication and getting the tattoo first. I’ve already paid a chunky deposit!
I think it depends how your spots affect you personally. If you are happy to wait, then I would wait. I wouldn’t have the tattoo done in the first month or so of taking the medication. It can sometimes be sore at first before it all gets better.
Don’t get me wrong, I want to start the medication ASAP as I’ve been begging doctors for years for medications to help me out, but I also don’t want to lose my deposit that I’ve paid, and I got a gift voucher to use for it too. I feel like I’ve waited this long for the medication I can probably wait a few more months!🙄
