Accutane doesn t work??

Hi, my name is Cristi, I had acne for 4 years. On February 27, 2019 I started treatment with accutane but my doctor prescribed me only 20 mg daily for 6 months. Acne passed away but after 2 months my skin started to be oily and breakouts. I went to the same dermatologist, gave me for 10 days doxycycline and creams but my skin was worse.

On December 24th I started again with accutane treatment, also 20 mg every day for 6 months, but after 3 months and a week my skin is much worse than at the beginning of treatment.

I called the dermatologist and told him to increase my dose, but he said he didn't want to increase it and to end the treatment with accutane because it didn't work for me anymore and I went to him in 2 weeks. evaluate the situation and try another treatment.

What to do? I still take the treatment because I believe in him and he is the only one who has given results in 4 years. I have 70 kg and I read on the internet that you have to take up to 120 mg x 70 kg = 8400

What to do, continue to take accutane even if I have not seen any improvement in the 3 months?

I take accutane with food. I have a prety clean diet, no junk food, a lot of water, drink maybe 1 time at 3 weeks cola zero.. Zero dairy, low sugar..

Please help me? Why în 3 month i m worse than i started.

Hope you Will understand, I had a bad english

Durring the tratament i had side efect. First month, dry lips and hands. Second month, dry lips, dry hands. The third month back pain, dry lips. And now, when i start month 4,dry lips, dry hands

I have mild acne

Hi Cristi, I'm sorry that you are not experiencing the results that you would like. 20mg is quite a low dose but a lot of research suggests that it is enough to clear acne in most people but usually you would require more than the standard 6 months. Some doctors prefer to give a low dose to minimise side effects. My daughter started on 10mg, then went up to 20, then 30 and finally 40mg before she saw her acne clear. She is now just finishing her course at 7 months (3 months on 40mg). If you still are not seeing improvements after another month I would request an increase in dose, even 30mg might be enough to shift the stubborn spots. Wishing you well. x

Hi Cristi. How long have you been on the medication for in total? It may be that your body has gotten used to the medication and so isn’t giving the same effect, and this could be the reason your doctor/dermatologist would like to try you on a different medication. Everyone reacts differently to different things.

It’s also very common with many acne medications for your skin become worse before it actually gets better.

I take 6 month, but only 20 mg per Day. After 6 month, with a cumulative dosage 3600(i should Take 120 x 70 = 8400).After 6 month i was s-o clear, my face was so smooth and in my Last month i had only a small pimple in all the month... After i finish my tratament, I was 2 month good, but after 2 month my face become so oily.. În the next 2 month my acne comming back and i had 3-4 pimple.. So, în 4 month after i finished my first cure i startes again accutane, again 20 mg.. After 4 month on accutane my face it s worse.. I had 3 New pimple every week. I started the 5 month and i increase my dosage but after 1 week on 40 mg i had New 3 pimple on my face.. I don t know what to do. I had depression again..

I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe the dosage is too low, although I wouldn’t increase the dosage without consulting with your doctor first. Or maybe, as I said before, your body has just got too used to the medication now. Although I have heard of people have to take two courses of accutane. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s a cure for acne, I think there is still a slight chance of acne returning, but the chances are significantly lower. Maybe speak to your doctor about alternatives, or whether the dosage can be increased perhaps.

I Will stay 2 month on 40 mg and see what hapend. If my acne doesn t improve, I will go to the doctor for another tratament. Honestly, I m losing all the hope..

That sounds like a good idea. If the accutane doesn’t work there will be something out there for you that will work. I’m in the same position as you, my skin is terrible and I have tried many different medications - I will be starting accutane in the near future for myself.

Man.. I pray for you.. Honestly, I don t understand why now i don t have the same results like first Time. First Time, în 4 month i was so clear. From 2-3 pimple per days în 4 month just 1 pimple per 2 week. Accutane it s worth în general. But plecase, don t do my mistakes. Take accutane and don t stop just when you take a cumulative dosage 120 mg x kg.. I taked just half and in 3 month my acne comeback and now accutane doesn t work anymore

I'm back with news. After I increased the dose to 40 mg my face started to clear. In 2 weeks I will be 2 months old when I am on 40 mg. In recent weeks i have seen an improvement. My face has become cleaner, I only have one pimple per week and my face is less red. I started running through the park again without feeling embarrassed. I will continue the treatment until I meet the minimum recommended dose of 8400mg for my 70 kg, so I still have 3 months and 2 weeks of treatment and I will do a total of 9 months of treatment. If my face continues like this or even improves, probably when I finish the treatment I will be almost clean, without hyper pigmentation spots

I will update every month, maybe i Will help someone
