My son is 8 and has a history of bedwetting. He doesn’t like to go to the bathroom and we have to remind him several times to pee before bedtime (if we don’t, he’ll often have a pee accident during the night). It generally seems like he just doesn’t want to interrupt what he’s doing (he hyperfocuses) and so he just lets himself go too long and has an accident. Daytime pee accidents are rarer but he occasionally has those too.
But this is new - in the past month, he’s had three poop accidents during the night. I can’t really think of anything that has changed in the past month other than that he started Lexapro (2.5mg).
Have others dealt with this? What did you do? Did you figure out a cause? Thanks!
this summer I’m going to work on this w an alarm as recommended by the pediatrician. The dr kept saying it was normal until 7-8 (x% of kids don’t make the brain connection which w I want to say is 15% ish). No progress over here and 8 is approaching. I’m considering adding an ssri because my son’s anxiety and phobias are through the roof on stimulants so it’s good to be aware this could be a side effect. Good luck!
