No worries, just want to get you the best answers. If I were in your shoes I would make a list of tutoring/help your child needs that is directly related to school ( if your child is below grade in reading or math or any subject) I would be asking the school to help provide this service. This could be written into an educational plan ( IEP or 504 plan).

As far as the other tutoring, we have done both types with our son. Some (Huntington or Kumon) do not follow the school curriculum. They create their own and claim it should help your child get better in school. I do not think these worked for our son becuase our son hated school so to add an additional large amount of school work on top of his school work was not what our son needed.

What has helped was to pay for and set up tutors to go over class material as the class is progressing.

We have been very pleased with Varsity Tutors. I will say they are expensive. But there are a large number out there.

The benefit to this is: it's online, he is assigned a tutor for his learning style and at any time if the tutor is not a good fit we can change. These tutors have always been a master at their subject and enjoy working with our son. You can pay for as many sessions you want per week. We usually do one but sometimes ( during midterms and finals) add an additional session. We just explain the issue he has ( focus, missing assignments) before a tutor starts and they help

If I could do things different, I would have skipped the other types of learning programs and gotten him consistant assistance in the subjects he struggles in.

High school is no joke, it is hard so the more they cement the skills in young the better they can do in high school when grades really matter. Every grade counts in high school. them.

Our son has never had EFunctioning coaching.

Hope this helps.

I would ask for referrals from instagram.com/caitlingreerm..., you can also check out the "ADHD dude" and potentially private tutoring on Outschool.

Our daughter had great success with a Wilson tutor, you can find a tutor in your area on the Wilson website. As for EF we are currently using Winston.

have you contacted your kids school for ideas, and your insurance and doctor? They may have resources.

Just to compare notes (my son is also 12 with ADHD and reading learning disability): we've found an amazing tutor outside of school who teaches Orton Gillingham. This really worked for my son, but the reading and writing will always be difficult. He's had various different forms of OT and EF tutoring in and out of school - but nothing has stuck. I've heard that EF training doesn't work that well with ADHD and that they have to find out what works best for themselves. I think the work I have done personally with my son has worked slowly over time, but VERY slowly and weekly sessions with tutors aren't going to do much. For my son, working on the reading with a special program like Orton Gillingham has made such a difference, also to his capabilities and self-esteem. My impresssion is that the public schools don't teach much for our kids. Maybe EF coaching will help your son, but I wouldn't waste the money.

Hi. We live in NYC and use Organizational Tutors for EF coaching and have found it to be helpful. It is pricy. My son does it online.

I would say that it helped more in middle school than it has in high school. It was also a huge help when we faced the high school application process in NYC in the 8th grade, which of course adds a significant organizational burden when you come to face it.

In case this is helpful…

I’m a Certified ADHD Executive Function Coach and work with mostly elementary to college level students. All sessions are online, typically 1 hour a week (broken into 2 sessions) with “check-ins” between sessions.

As others will attest to, I’m incredibly passionate about coaching and using creative & strategic approaches to help support the needs of each individual.

My students have ADHD, some ADHD and dyslexia and a few with dysgraphia.

I’m happy to share information about my services and provide references.

Just an FYI. No pressure.
