Just noticed today our 8 year old with ADHD stuttering while doing math homework. It was very brief. At first I thought he was acting, but when I asked him, he said no. The only med he is on at this time is Effexor for anxiety. Has anyone observed this in their child? If this prevelant in kids with ADHD?Thanks

My 9yr old son will stutter when he’s really nervous. It’s essentially a tic which is really common at that age. I’m not sure about Effexor making tics worse but you could check into that. Stimulants can make tics worse as well.

I just noticed the same thing with my son (7). I asked his speech therapist and she said that it can happen when the child’s words are having a difficult time keeping up with their thoughts. She said not to worry about it unless it get more frequent/worse. Hope that helps!
