Hello- Has anyone had experience with Clonodine? We are suppose to be trying 0.05mg at night. I am mainly wondering if this can be crushed? I don't think she will able to swallow a medication. Also have you seen any positive effects with aggression and impulsivity. Thank you!

We tried it a couple years ago, same dose, and we did crush it. It definitely helped our kid fall asleep, some nights, but it also seemed to actually cause emotional issues/aggression as well if she wasn't ready for the effects for whatever reason. No real difference seen next day. Guanfacine was similarly mixed.

we tried it recently, and it helped with regulation and impulsivity but she had to switch to Intiniv bc it was making her sleep all the time. The pills are very small so maybe they will be able to swallow. We took .1mg morning and night.

thank you for replying! How long did you observe before switching- I heard it takes 3 weeks or so to see any changes in behavior we just started yesterday

my daughter is pretty sensitive to medication so we saw the easier bedtime results pretty immediately and as it built up in her system about a month we really noticed results. When we ended it she was taking .1in AM AND .2 in PM. The biggest issue was that she was sleeping for hours in the middle of the day if given the moment. For instance, I could walk out of the room for two minutes and she would be zonked. She says that she was fine at school and her teachers said she was very regulated but at the end of the day we felt like her weekend life should be awake. :) happy to answer any more questions and I hope it works your child!

My son uses it because Melatonin wasn’t working; it definitely helps him fall asleep and sleeping through the night. It’s very small, so he doesn’t need to crush it. Maybe your son can swallow it with apple sauce.

It was our first night with it last night I was surprised to see how small it was - the apple sauce did the trick thank you!

My son uses it in lieu of melatonin to help sleep. Over time , your body will get used to the melatonin and may not regulate itself well., according to our NP. Clonodine seemed like the much better choice. We monitored his bp for a while to make sure he didn’t have any negative side effects. Any affects the next day on impulsivity was minimal. He takes vyvanse in the am. We didn’t need to crush but I don’t see why not.

We took his blod pressure every few days for about a month. We did again when increased once. He’s been on .2 mg everynight for a very long time, over a year at least. Things will change as he/she grows. I hope this answers your question.

My grandson takes .02 Clonidine with 50 Sertraline in the AM and .02 at night with 5mg melatonin. This has been the best combination of any thus far and he has been taking for about a year. We have switched the doses a little to find this combination. He sleeps very well and the pills are small. We have never tried to crush.

We briefly tried it, and it made my daughter sleepy all the time. It didn’t really help with impulsivity expect that she was sleepy all of the time. We ended up not taking it any longer because it was making her blood pressure drop too low.

hi was she taking it during the day or just at night? Our doctor has her taking 0.05mg at bedtime- last night was her first night taking it, I don’t know if it would effect her so soon but she’s definitely tired today. However she slept horribly last night which is not uncommon for her so not sure if it’s from the medication or just bad rest last night
