hello out there!

I have a gifted 10 year old who has ADHD. Researching solutions for him led me to realize I am in the same boat. We also have cPTSD and a few other diagnoses, so a lot on our plates. We have been so isolated and alone for so long, even before the pandemic and beyond the quarantine experience.

We are starting to build a new life, brick by brick. The hardest part is being very rural and very busy and finding ways for my son to be socially active while learning how to cope with his challenges. I’ll be happy for some camaraderie for both of us, actually. I haven’t even been able to work steadily despite having an advanced degree.

But enough sounding like a sad sack… I’m happy to have found you all. Thanks for being here!

Hey there, I was reading through your post and noticed you said you have cPTSD. I too have that as well as adhd, plus 2 of my 3 kids have adhd as well. And I completely understand how hard it is to social especially when it seems that things are just all around hard for most people these days. And I only just found this site so I'm really hopeful that being on here can help shine some much needed light to a lot of people's lives. But hey I hope you and your son are doing well and maybe today will be the day the sun shine directly in the two of you! And hey I'll be glad to talk with you anytime 😊 Anyways I wish you both the best and I hope you guys have a good day at least.

I think the answer is a little bit at a time. Our family has lots of diagnoses and we, like most people, were slow to come back from pandemic isolation. It’s hard! Posting here is a good start, folks are very friendly and supportive. I don’t know if you’re in therapy for yourself, but that’s also a possibility. A therapist can help you get yourself sorted and brainstorm ideas for socializing and other kinds of support. Try finding a therapist who has experience working with women with ADHD. I’d also recommend the ADHD workbook for women, and two podcasts: ADHD Aha and Motherhood in ADHD.
