I’m considering trying neurofeedback with my 10yo daughter. If you’ve tried it, did you find it helpful? What did it help the most with (impulse control, anger, focus, etc)? Thanks for any guidance.

Neurofeedback
hello! We did neurofeedback with my daughter and it was extremely beneficial. The benefits of the therapy are noticeable, but there is a fringe benefit of the ability to have regularly scheduled 35 minute blocks for your child to sit and listen to the music and be calm (which I think had an equal impact). The one thing I will say is that just like other therapy, it only works when you are in the practice. I found that the results were good after a consistent 3 months and we even went back and did some maintenance, but it was pretty expensive and so once we stopped I felt like the progress eventually reverted back to its original state. Hope that helps.
Our son did Neurofeedback for several months. He was a Freshman in HS when he did it. He will tell you that it helped him tremendously with anger, so much so that he felt he couldn’t force himself to be angry even if he’d wanted. Obviously, this is anecdotal, but I would say that his anger definitely subsided. I don’t know that is helped with anything else. It is expensive and often not covered by insurance, but if you have the means to try it, I say do it.
As a side note, my nine year old daughter also did NF. The therapist who ran the NF did some supplemental treatments for my daughter’s enuresis (wetting the bed), and it definitely helped that. I think there’s something to NF, but it’s not well understood and it’s expensive.
We did the at home machine. It was very time consuming and expensive maybe saw some results but not a huge amount. I think it just depends on the individual.
Yes, my 10 yr old son at the time did NF for nearly his entire 5th grade year. We went primarily for behavior/impulsivity reasons. It definitely works. I agree though as time passed (he’s 11 now) there’s been a little regression. And yes expensive!! I think we paid $80/session. We started twice a week and then went weekly. Then every 2 weeks. There’s a survey you (and kid) take periodically to assess if you notice specific behavior changing in frequency and severity.
I tried it in past for a session but didn't get that much benefit from it. Being said they said it should be for a few sessions to get any result also it helps more with anxiety
