Hello everyone,

My son 6 1/2 yo was diagnosed recently with ADHD. We are a little concern to start any medication right now. I would like to know if someone tried a neurofeedback therapy and used the Brain mapping to find specific slow waves in the brain.

Thanks

Welcome! I have tried Biofeedback for myself ( horrible migraines) and I am an adult and I did not find it helpful. Not sure what the brainwave mapping would do for the issue with children with ADHD is not controlling themselves and medication/therapy are the tools to help with that.

Thanks

EnDeavorRX is not on the market yet, but has been approved by the FDA. Google and it will bring you to a site that you can be notified when it is on the market. It’s a computer program I believe for children up to 12. It can be covered through insurance if I understand correctly. Found this through CHADD

Blessings.

Hello, yes my daughter had neurofeedback when she was 6 yrs going on 7 yrs. She is 10 yrs old now. We were in the same place you are, not willing to medicate. While it's not a cure all it does help a lot. We found a therapist in our area who offered neurofeedback sessions along with parenting sessions. You do need to learn how to parent a child with ADHD. Neurofeedback helps your ADHD child exercise their brain to develop the processing, & critical thinking skills they lack. I believe it was twice weekly sessions for about three months. Focus, attention & impulse control improved enough for her to be able to make it through the week with less melt downs. We also engaged a play therapist to help with the social, behavioral and anxiety issues. Her school also helped tremendously in creating a plan to help her succeed while not expecting perfection. It truly takes a village.

I referred my co-worker to the same therapist for neurofeedback for their daughter and they were quite happy with the results as well.

As of today she remains unmedicated. We still struggle a bit but maturity has done wonders. I approach parenting her as if I am helping her make the connections her brain finds hard to do naturally. Setting clear expectations and responsibilities as well as having consequences for undesirable actions or behaviors. Structure goes a long way. She loves to know what to expect.

Hope this helps.

Denise

Hello, I came across your post searching about experiences with neurofeedback. My son is 8 and hasn’t been formally diagnosed yet but he shows many signs of adhd. Either way I am in the same camp as you where I am reluctant to medicate so I am seeking as many natural and holistic remedies as possible. My son has incredible tantrums and meltdowns, major anger and aggression issues, inability to tolerate frustration or being said no to, can’t process basic cause and effect consequences and generally can’t get along with his younger brothers. He has compulsive behaviors at night which have really affected his sleep and it takes a long time for his brain to settle before he does. How did you go about finding your neurofeedback provider? I met with one from a basic Google search and recognize that can’t be the best way to find someone. Do you know if the programs are all the same or can different providers provide different quality programs? Now that time has passed have you notice sustained benefits from the treatment? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

For parenting help go to You Tube and find Pax Tools. Great videos, short, easy to use tips and strategies. Also research Pax GBG , an elementary school teaching technique that has been clinically tested for 40 years and found to improve all types of behavior including ADHD . Pax GBG actually allows kids to exercise their prefrontal cortex in self control safely and regularly before puberty hits.
