My 17 year old has tried several other meds for their ADHD inattentive. Switched to VyVance yesterday,30 mg. They have not noticed any difference with any of the meds they have tried.
What are good questions to ask to help them identify what may be a change, even slight change?
For my son, his psychiatrist only does a med check. He has a therapist that he sees every week or two to assist with behavioral issues and learning to function with his ADHD and depression. My son was diagnosed at 6 and is 16 now. It's been a long road because he struggled for a long time of why he was different from other kids. With a lot of therapy , I think he is finally accepting he just can't function they way his friends do. Vyvance did not work for us and he takes 72mg of Methylphenidate. It's the highest possible dose and we are also working on sleep issues at night.
I have found keeping a journal helps me a lot. I can keep track of small things I notice every day and make a list to tell his dr. and therapist the things I noticed since our last appointment so they can give me the best advice. It also helps with viewing long term progress to see where we were and where we are now.
Does your son have a therapist in addition to person who prescribes meds?
Schoolwork is always such a great indicator. When my kids go off their medication they have a harder time focusing and don’t do as well on tests. Also, at home I can tell because my son also gets more hyper in terms of bodily movements and talking.
