New here
We are so excited you found us and welcome you with warm open arms. We are here for the long journey of a bumpy road with many ups and and a few downs. Thanks
Hi JimDaydreamer. My son is 8 and was diagnosed during the pandemic. I’ve decided to get my own assessment and am on a waitlist. I know I have it, as it has been mentioned before by professionals I trust.
I find watching the webinars on ADDitude magazine very helpful. I’ve found there are great resources for adults with adhd and great ones for parenting kids with adhd but there are more limited resources for parenting when both parent and child have adhd. This is what I’m struggling with currently. The strategies to help my son are ones I struggle with myself! But I’ve come a long way since my son’s diagnosis. I’m just mentioning this because even if your son does have it, yes it will be a struggle, but you will manage, because your kid is who he is no matter what and you won’t know any different either! I don’t mean that harshly. I’ve had to grieve the fact that my son has struggles and will have more than other kids, which hurts me, but when I feel badly about it, I focus on his MANY strengths and that helps
CBT can really help manage your ‘what if’ wonderings if you feel it is interfering with your life. If your child does have adhd, you will both benefit from early intervention which will help him be his best as he grows. It I s hard, but the fact you are on this site talking about it means your son is lucky you are in his corner getting support for you, too!
Thank you for your post. It’s prompting me to ask the group about resources, too, so will do that soon. Best wishes.
