My 9yr old ADHD son got into it with our cat and has been picking his face ever since getting scratched. It’s been a month. All when school started. I dont see him do it at home. He used to just twist his hair at school and now he just picks at his face!! 😫. He comes home everyday looking worse. Ive put neosporin, Vit E, coconut oil on him and I’ve trimmed and filed his nails too nothing. It’s so upsetting. He takes Vyvanse and 10mg of Lexapro for anxiety. His Dr just upped it to 20. I pray that helps. Does anyone have any suggestions? He has every fidget at school but seems to prefer his face. 😢

Picking
So sorry, it's so frustrating to see I'm sure. We have kids who pick too... but the only thing that has seemed to help is a bit of scare tactics. We've talked pretty bluntly about how picking your skin introduces bacteria, even more than usual, and can cause some pretty nasty infections. That can happen anywhere on the skin... but the face can be especially bad. We have an 11yo & a 13yo... they both pick, but the boy(13) more than the girl. He had a spot on his head for months, and another inside his nose for longer. No amount of meds or salves seemed to help. He needed some reality and if it took the addition of an embarrassingly placed band-aid on the face, then that's we do. Could be worth trying and challenge him to keep it on all day...?
Not sure but my granddaughter was placed on 20mg Vvyanse. She's ADHD and has Dyslexia. She's very figity at school but since the dosage increase she seems to be doing better at school. The only side effect has been a slight decrease in appetite. I got her vitamins to help with that.
We have a very similar issue here with my 9 yr old son. ADHD and anxiety and he picks everything! All the threads on his clothes and ends up ripping holes in them, picks feathers out of pillows, picks bottom of table during his zoom calls, picks texturized paint lumps off walls, used to pick cuticles but has gotten better. He takes Adderall 10 mg XR and lexapro 10mg. We tried 20mg but it almost made him more impulsive and anxious (back fired on us) so I’m anxious to see if it works for you.
Oh Wow!
