Magnesium b6???

Good morning! My son has ADHD and is extremely hyper which tests out patience. He says thing that are rude and crazy and we don’t think he really realizes what he is saying or doing. Has anyone tried magnesium with b6 and had good results? If so how much of each? He is 10 and takes focalin during the school day. We have tried a lot of different vitamins and companies that we either notice opposite effect or no effect at all.

Have you tried a non-stimulant? This is what really made the difference for our son. It was not enough to just have an impulse control medication. He takes Initivi which is a 24 hour dose and he takes it at bed time.

Please make sure he is getting enough REM sleep, it is very common for kids with ADHD to have sleep issues.

Good luck!

Does he take that with a stimulant or just initivi?

He takes 60mg Methylphenidate ( Ritalin) at 7:30am then again 40mgMethylphenidate (Ritalin) slow release, at bed time 5mg Guanfacine (Intuniv) which is 24 hour. This set up is amazing and works best for him.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried broad spectrum micronutrients from True Hope or Hardy Nutritionals?

We did the hardy nutritional and it did not work. They even said it won’t work on impulsiveness and hyper activity. They wanted me to give him even more pills than the 12 and I did not agree with pumping with that many pills.

Psychiatrist also recommends L-theanine as Suntheanine if you want to try. I get it on Amazon.

Gaufacine can be very helpful in combination with the stimulant. It helps with impulse control and also calming them down at night. A small dose can make a big difference

Thank you. Would he stop the Prozac with that? Or take in addition with Prozac and focalin

Discuss with the doctor who gave him the RX... they know best. I don't think it is good to just stop a medication like that. I think you nees to tapper off, but I am not a doctor.

Best!

I've used Kids Calm in the past, and it has magnesium, B Vitamins and a little Theanine. I'm not sure how effective it was, but it's worth trying.

This was studied for children with autism and had no effect in any well designed study. There is a risk of nerve problems if too much vitamin B6 is used daily.
